Introduction

From the moment we set foot on the path that leads us to Cala Saladeta, we know we are about to discover something special, a true treasure on the coast of Ibiza. Nestled discreetly next to its larger sister, Cala Salada, this small cove is one of those beaches that take our breath away and make us feel we've found a little piece of paradise. With its almost unreal turquoise blue waters and fine, golden sand that invites you to lie under the sun, Cala Saladeta is the personification of Ibizan natural beauty. It is a place where time seems to stand still, where the sound of the waves becomes the only soundtrack, and where worry dissipates with each sea breeze.

For us, Cala Saladeta is not just another beach in the vast repertoire of Balearic beaches; it is an experience. It is the promise of a day of total disconnection, immersion in a pristine environment, and enjoyment of the purity of the Mediterranean. Although it lacks the massive infrastructure of other larger beaches, it is precisely that simplicity and its somewhat 'wild' character that makes it so attractive. It is a corner for those seeking authenticity, tranquility, and the opportunity to connect with nature at its finest. Its proximity to San Antonio makes it accessible, but its slightly more complicated access gives it an air of exclusivity that we greatly value.

How to get to Cala Saladeta

Getting to Cala Saladeta is part of the adventure and, for us, adds an extra charm to the visit. Although it is very close to San Antonio, its semi-hidden location requires a small effort that is amply rewarded. The most common and recommended route is to first head to Cala Salada. To do this, we take the PM-812 road towards Santa Agnès de Corona and, before reaching this town, we will find the signs for Cala Salada. It is important to consider that, especially during the summer months (July and August), car access to Cala Salada may be restricted. During these times, a dissuasive parking area is usually set up at the top of the hill, from where a shuttle bus takes us to Cala Salada beach. This measure aims to preserve the environment and avoid vehicle overcrowding, something we applaud.

Once at Cala Salada, the path to Cala Saladeta is revealed. It is not a paved road or a promenade; it is a natural trail, sometimes a bit rocky and with slopes, that winds along the coast. We go down some wooden stairs or directly down the side of the main cove of Cala Salada and, from there, we see a dirt and rock path that skirts the cliff. This journey, although short (just about five minutes on foot), requires comfortable footwear and some caution, especially if we are carrying loads. It is a walk that gives us spectacular views of the crystal-clear waters and the rugged coastline, anticipating the beauty that awaits us. For those who prefer a more picturesque arrival without parking worries, it is also possible to access Cala Saladeta by boat or on small boats that do coastal tours, anchoring nearby to allow a swim in its idyllic waters. This option seems ideal to us for enjoying the marine perspective of this impressive cove.

The sand and the water

The sand and water of Cala Saladeta are, without a doubt, its greatest attractions and what elevate it to the category of one of our favorite beaches in Ibiza. The sand is of exceptional quality: fine, of a soft golden tone that contrasts wonderfully with the blue of the sea. It is clean sand, pleasant to the touch, perfect for laying out a towel and enjoying a day of sun without small stones bothering you. Walking barefoot, we feel that softness under our feet, a feeling of comfort that only the best beaches can offer. Despite being a relatively small cove, the quality of its sand allows us to always find a spot to relax, although in high season it can be quite crowded.

But if the sand is a delight, the water is a true marvel. The waters of Cala Saladeta are famous for their transparency and their shades ranging from the lightest aquamarine near the shore to an intense blue in the deeper areas. The visibility is astonishing, making it a paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. Putting your head underwater is like entering a natural aquarium; we can easily observe small fish swimming among the submerged rocks and the Posidonia oceanica, that vital marine plant for the health of the Mediterranean ecosystem and which attests to the purity of its waters. The entrance to the sea is gentle and gradual, making it ideal for a relaxing swim. Furthermore, being sheltered by the cliffs, its waters usually remain calm, protected from the wind and currents, creating a perfect natural pool for swimming and floating without worries. It is that kind of water that invites us to dive in again and again, to let ourselves be carried by its freshness and to feel how stress dissolves with every stroke.

Services and facilities

One of the aspects that defines Cala Saladeta is its rather pristine character and its limited service offering, something that for us is part of its charm. Unlike more urbanized beaches, here we will not find a large amount of infrastructure, and that is precisely what we look for when we come to a place like this: a more authentic and less commercial experience. Generally, in the summer months, it is possible that we may find a small chiringuito or improvised stall offering cold drinks, some snacks, and perhaps fruit, but we should not expect a restaurant with an elaborate menu. This type of service is usually seasonal and basic, focused on refreshing the bather.
