How to get to Cala Blava

Getting to Cala Blava is relatively easy, although its location in a residential area can make the entrance less obvious than other, better-signposted beaches. If you are coming from Palma, the drive takes about 15-20 minutes, taking the Ma-19 towards Llucmajor/Santanyí and turning off towards the Cala Blava area.

From the town of Llucmajor itself, the journey is even shorter, just 10-15 minutes. We recommend using GPS so you don't get lost on the streets of the residential area. Once there, you will find parking on the streets surrounding the cove. It is important to consider that, being a residential area, parking can be limited during the high season months, so we advise arriving early to secure a good spot.

For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines connecting Palma with the Cala Blava area, although frequencies may be lower and the stop may not be right at the entrance to the cove, requiring a short walk. However, for us, the convenience of arriving by car and having the freedom to explore the surroundings is unbeatable.

The sand and the water

The first thing that surprises us upon arriving at Cala Blava is the quality of its fine, golden sand. It is a delight to walk barefoot on it, to feel it slip between your toes. Although it is not a very wide beach, it offers enough space to lay out a towel and enjoy the sun without feeling crowded. The predominant ground type is sand, which makes it very comfortable for swimming and for children.

But if there is one thing that truly makes us fall in love with this cove, it's its waters. They are simply spectacular! The sea here is an intense turquoise blue, incredibly clear and, most importantly, very calm. The cove is well protected from waves, making it a perfect natural swimming pool for bathing, even for less experienced swimmers. The underwater visibility is fantastic, inviting snorkeling to discover the marine life hiding among the rocks and seagrass.

The entry into the water is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops, making it ideal for families. We have spent hours floating in its waters, watching the small fish and enjoying the peace that permeates this environment. Do not expect large leisure complexes or an extensive offer of sunbed and umbrella rentals, as the philosophy here is different.

• Showers: It has showers to rinse off the salt and sand before heading home, a detail we always appreciate.
• Parking: As already indicated, there are parking areas on the streets of the adjacent residential area. It is free, but in high season you may need to search a bit.
• Chiringuitos: Although there is no chiringuito on the sand itself, you will find some small bar or kiosk in the immediate vicinity or a short distance away, where you can refresh yourself with a drink, an ice cream, or even have a light snack. For a more formal meal, you will have to go a bit further.
• Trash bins: It is essential to keep the cove clean, and there are bins available to dispose of waste. We always carry an extra bag for our own trash and for any litter left by others.
