If we fly into La Romana International Airport (LRM), the good news is that Bayahíbe is just about a 25-minute drive away. This proximity is a great advantage, as it significantly reduces transfer time from landing to stepping on the sand. It is a smaller airport, but it receives direct flights from some cities in North America and Europe.

For those opting for a larger airport, like Punta Cana International (PUJ), which is the busiest in the country, the journey to Bayahíbe takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. From Santo Domingo and its Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), the trip is a bit longer, around 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Both routes are on well-maintained highways.

Transportation Options

• Car rental: We usually recommend renting a vehicle if you plan to explore the surroundings at your own pace. The main roads are in good condition and signage is adequate, although it's always good to use a GPS. This will give you the freedom to visit other La Romana beaches, nearby towns, or take excursions without depending on fixed schedules. It's an excellent option for adventurers.
• Taxis and private transfers: This is the most comfortable and direct option if you prefer not to drive. Taxi services are available at all airports, and many hotels and resorts offer pre-booked transfers. Be sure to agree on the price before starting the trip to avoid surprises. It's ideal if you're traveling with a lot of luggage or in a group.
• Buses ('Guaguas'): For travelers on a tighter budget, there are public buses or 'guaguas' that connect the main cities with La Romana. From the La Romana bus terminal, you would need to take another guagua or a taxi to Bayahíbe. It's a more economical but less direct and comfortable option, and may involve several stops and changes.
