Located on the Albufeira coast, within the Faro district, this cove presents itself as a true hidden treasure, a sanctuary of peace in the middle of Portugal's vibrant region. It's not one of the largest beaches, but its charm lies precisely in the intimacy it offers, in the way the tall golden cliffs embrace it, creating a landscape that seems taken from a postcard.

For us, it's the perfect place to recharge, whether sunbathing on its soft sand or exploring the small nooks carved by rock formations over millennia. How to Get to Praia da Coelha

Getting to Praia da Coelha is part of the adventure and, at the same time, surprisingly simple, which makes it even more attractive. For those coming from Faro or nearby Albufeira, traveling by car is the most recommended option. We usually take the A22 or EN125, following signs towards Albufeira and then towards the Galé or Sesmarias area, where this wonderful cove is located. There is signage that guides us directly to the beach, which makes access much easier.

Once we approach the coast, we find a free parking lot at the top of the cliff, just a few meters from the beach entrance. It's important to consider that, during high season, this parking lot can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. From the parking lot, a well-maintained wooden walkway leads us through Mediterranean vegetation, offering spectacular views of the ocean and cliffs. This walk is already a delight in itself, a perfect prelude to the beauty that awaits us.

Finally, to access the sand, we must descend via a ramp or wooden stairs. Although access is relatively easy for most, it's important to consider that it's not a beach with full accessibility for people with very limited mobility, as the last stretch requires some effort. However, the path is very well maintained and the reward at the end of the descent is a breathtaking panoramic view: the Praia da Coelha cove in all its splendor, inviting us to enjoy its charms.

The Sand and Water

Praia da Coelha captivates us from the first moment with the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. The sand is fine, with a soft golden tone that contrasts beautifully with the turquoise blue of the sea. It's perfect sand for walking barefoot, laying out a towel and enjoying a sunny day, or for children to build sandcastles effortlessly. Its texture is pleasant and warms evenly under the Algarve sun, inviting total relaxation.

As for the water, it's simply spectacular. The waters of Praia da Coelha are famous for their transparency and calmness. Being protected by the surrounding cliffs, the cove rarely experiences strong waves, making it an idyllic spot for swimming. The water temperature, especially during the summer months and early autumn, is very pleasant, allowing us to enjoy long, refreshing dips. The clarity is such that, with a pair of goggles, we can easily observe the seabed, dotted with small rocks and, occasionally, some fish venturing near the shore.

These rocks, sculpted by nature, create small passageways and caves that we can explore on foot during low tide, adding a touch of adventure to our visit. The combination of fine sand and crystal-clear waters, framed by the rocky landscape, makes Praia da Coelha one of those beaches that stays etched in our memory long after visiting.

Despite its somewhat 'hidden' cove appearance, Praia da Coelha has excellent service infrastructure that ensures a comfortable and safe stay for all its visitors. We're pleased to know that this beach holds the Blue Flag, a quality distinction that certifies the cleanliness of its waters, safety, and the services it offers, something we greatly value when traveling with family.

Among the available services, we find a small but cozy chiringuito or beach restaurant that, during high season, allows us to enjoy refreshments, ice creams, and some light meals without having to leave the sand. It's the perfect place for a morning coffee or a cold beer at sunset. We also have showers to rinse off salt and sand before heading home, a detail we always appreciate. For those seeking greater comfort, there's a sunbed and umbrella rental service, allowing us to relax without worrying about bringing our own equipment.

Safety is a priority at Praia da Coelha, so during the bathing season we have a lifeguard service that watches over swimmers, providing us with additional peace of mind, especially when traveling with children. The free parking at the top of the cliff is another plus, although, as mentioned, it can fill up during the peak months.
