How to Get to Praia del Farol de Vila Nova de Milfontes

Getting to this paradise corner is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite accessible. We always recommend planning the route in advance, especially if visiting during the high season.

By Car

For many, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option. From Lisbon, the journey takes approximately two and a half to three hours, following the A2 south and then taking exits onto the N120 and N393 towards Vila Nova de Milfontes. If you're coming from the Algarve (Faro), the trip is similar in duration, heading north on the A22 and then connecting to the national roads. Once in the town, the beach is well signposted. Parking can be a challenge in summer, as the closest spots tend to fill up quickly. There are public parking areas around the town, but we may have to walk a bit to reach the sand.

By Bus

Portugal has a good network of intercity buses. Companies like Rede Expressos offer regular connections from Lisbon and other major cities to Vila Nova de Milfontes. Once at the town's bus station, Praia del Farol is a reasonable walking distance away, or we can take a local taxi if we prefer not to carry luggage.

By Plane

The nearest airports are Lisbon Airport (LIS) and Faro Airport (FAO). From both, the best option is to rent a car to get to Vila Nova de Milfontes and have the freedom to explore the region, or take a bus to the locality. The experience of driving along the Alentejo roads, flanked by cork oaks and golden fields, is in itself part of the trip's charm.

During the bathing season, the presence of Lifeguards provides us with additional peace of mind, knowing that professionals are watching over our safety. We also find Showers to rinse off the salt and sand before heading home, a detail that is always appreciated. The nearby public Toilets/WCs are essential and are kept in acceptable condition. For those who don't want to carry all the beach gear, there is the possibility of renting Umbrellas and sun loungers at specific points, which is very convenient.

Around the beach and in the town of Vila Nova de Milfontes itself, there are several Chiringuitos and cafés where we can enjoy a refreshment, an ice cream, or a light meal with sea views. Access to the beach is relatively easy, although full accessibility for people with reduced mobility may present some challenges in certain areas, though efforts have been made to improve it. Parking, as mentioned, is available in the surroundings, though it may require a bit of searching during peak hours.
