How to Get to Playa Xpu-Há

Getting to the charming Playa Xpu-Há is relatively easy, especially if we are in the Riviera Maya. This gem is located approximately 25 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen and about 20 kilometers north of Tulum, making it an ideal stop on any route through the Yucatan Peninsula. The most common way to access it is via Federal Highway 307, the main artery connecting these tourist destinations.

We recommend several options to get there. If we prefer independence, renting a car is the best alternative, as it allows us to explore the area at our own pace. There is a well-marked entrance from the highway; once there, we will find a parking area (usually with a small fee) where we can safely leave our vehicle. For those looking for a more economical option, the 'colectivos' or shared vans that constantly run along Highway 307 are an excellent choice. Just tell the driver to drop us off at the Xpu-Há entrance, and from there, a short walk will take us directly to the sand. Taxis are also a comfortable option, though more expensive, ideal if we are traveling in a group or with a lot of luggage.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa Xpu-Há, it is impossible not to highlight the exceptional quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. The sand here is immaculately white, so fine and soft that it feels like talcum powder under our feet. Walking barefoot along the shore is a delight, and its consistency makes it perfect for building sandcastles or simply relaxing in the sun. This characteristic, combined with the lush vegetation that surrounds it, creates a visual contrast that takes our breath away.

But if the sand is impressive, the water is simply spectacular. The waters of Playa Xpu-Há are incredibly clear, with shades ranging from emerald green to the most vibrant turquoise blue, inviting an instant dip. The water temperature is warm year-round, allowing us to enjoy it for hours. Despite its relaxed atmosphere and natural beauty, Playa Xpu-Há does not lack the necessary services to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. We really appreciate this balance, which allows us to enjoy nature without sacrificing basic comforts.

At Playa Xpu-Há, we will find several chiringuitos and beach clubs, such as La Playa Xpu-Há or Serenity Beach Club, which offer an excellent variety of food and drink, from fresh seafood to typical Mexican dishes. These establishments also usually provide umbrellas and sun loungers for rent, allowing us to relax in the shade without having to carry our own equipment. Furthermore, most of these places have clean bathrooms/WCs and showers to wash off the salt and sand after a day at the beach. For those arriving by car, as mentioned before, there is a secure parking lot (with a symbolic cost) right at the beach entrance. It is also common to find equipment rental points for water sports, such as snorkeling gear, kayaks, and paddleboards, making it easy to explore the reef without needing to bring our own gear. During the high season, and even in the low season, it is common to see lifeguards monitoring the busier swimming areas, which adds an extra layer of safety to our visit.
