How to Get to Playa Bacocho

Getting to Playa Bacocho is relatively easy, especially if we are already in Puerto Escondido. Its location, a bit away from the center and the busier beaches like Zicatela, contributes to its tranquil and exclusive atmosphere, but at the same time, it is very accessible.

From Puerto Escondido International Airport (PMX)

If we arrive by plane, the airport is conveniently close to the Bacocho area. Upon leaving the terminal, we will find taxis available that will take us directly to the beach or to our accommodation in the area in about 5 to 10 minutes. It's the fastest and most comfortable option, though a bit more expensive. We always recommend agreeing on the fare before starting the trip.

From downtown Puerto Escondido or the Zicatela area

From any point in Puerto Escondido, we have several options:

• Taxi: They are plentiful and relatively inexpensive. We can hail one on the street or through our hotel. The journey from downtown or Zicatela to Bacocho usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on traffic.
• Colectivos or 'camionetas': For a more economical and local option, we can take a colectivo. These are shared taxis (usually pick-up trucks with covers) that run fixed routes. We should ask for one going towards 'Bacocho' or 'El Aeropuerto'. They will drop us off on the main road, from where we will have to walk about 5-10 minutes to the beach. It's an authentic way to get around and experience the daily life of the locals.
• Rental car: If we prefer to have total freedom to explore, renting a car is an excellent idea. Most hotels in the Bacocho area offer parking, and the beach has designated parking areas. The advantage is that we can easily visit other nearby beaches and attractions without depending on transport schedules.
