How to Get to Playa Destiladeras

Getting to Playa Destiladeras is relatively easy, especially if you are in the Bahía de Banderas area. We recommend several options so you can choose the one that best suits your travel style:

• By car: This is the most comfortable and flexible option. From Puerto Vallarta, the journey takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, following Highway 200 north towards Punta de Mita. From Bucerías, the trip is much shorter, about 15-20 minutes. There is signage to turn off towards the beach, and you'll find parking options, some paid and others free, although the latter can be harder to find in high season. The road is in good condition.
• By taxi or Uber: A practical alternative if you don't want to drive. Prices vary depending on the starting point, but it's a safe and direct option. From Puerto Vallarta, expect to pay around 500-800 Mexican pesos, while from Bucerías, it will be considerably less.
• By public transportation: For adventurers and those looking for a more economical option, you can take a 'Compostela' bus heading towards Punta de Mita from Puerto Vallarta or Bucerías. You'll need to ask the driver to drop you off at the turnoff for Playa Destiladeras. From there, it's a short walk, about 10-15 minutes, to the sand. It's a more local experience and allows you to appreciate the landscape.

The Sand and Water

The sand here is a pale golden hue, incredibly fine and soft to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot for hours or for children to play building sandcastles. • Umbrellas and sun loungers: Many of the chiringuitos offer umbrella and sun lounger rentals. Sometimes, just by consuming at their establishment, the use of these is free. This is ideal for sun protection and enjoying a comfortable day on the sand.
• Parking: As mentioned, there are parking options. Some are private and paid, with security, while others are public spaces where you can park for free, though with less security and availability.
