How to Get to Playa Las Amapas

Getting to Playa Las Amapas is part of the adventure and, at the same time, a simple experience if you know the way. Its privileged location, just south of Puerto Vallarta's Romantic Zone, makes it accessible, though not always visible from the main avenues. We recommend several options to reach this idyllic destination.

From Puerto Vallarta

If you are in the heart of Puerto Vallarta, the most common and convenient way to get there is by taxi or via a ride-sharing app. Simply tell the driver to take you to the Amapas area, specifically near Amapas Street or Santa Barbara Street, which are known access points. The journey from downtown or the Romantic Zone is usually short, about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on traffic. The cost is reasonable and will drop you off near the entry points.

Another option is to walk if you are staying in the Romantic Zone. It is a pleasant walk that will take you between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on your pace and starting point. Walking will allow you to appreciate the local architecture and the atmosphere of the surrounding streets before reaching the beach. However, keep in mind that access to the beach itself may involve descending some stairs or paths, as it is flanked by private properties and hills.

By Public Transportation

Although there is no bus route that drops you off directly on the sand of Las Amapas, you can take a local bus heading south from downtown Puerto Vallarta (for example, those going to Mismaloya or Boca de Tomatlán) and get off in the Amapas area. From there, you will have to walk a few minutes downhill to find the beach access points. This is the most economical option, but requires a bit more orientation on your part.

By Private or Rental Car

If you have a car, you can drive to the Amapas area. However, parking can be a challenge. Most streets in this area are residential with little parking space, and much of the beach access is reserved for residents or through private properties. It is possible to find some spots on the surrounding streets, but we recommend arriving early to secure one. Once parked, look for the public paths that descend to the beach. It is important to respect 'No Parking' signs and the privacy of the properties.

Its predominantly golden color, with ochre hues, shines intensely under the tropical sun, creating a beautiful contrast with the blue of the ocean. It is not sand that gets excessively hot, which is a relief during the midday hours, allowing us to enjoy long walks along the shore without discomfort. We enjoyed building small sandcastles with the children or simply relaxing on it, feeling its warmth and comfort. The cleanliness of the sand is notable, reflecting the care taken in this area, despite it not being a beach with extensive public services. It is a pure soil type: sand, without large rocks or pebbles that could hinder enjoyment.
