How to Get to Playa Blanca

Getting to Playa Blanca is a simple and rewarding adventure. The most common way to access this coastal gem is through the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport (ZIH), which receives domestic and international flights. Once at the airport, which is conveniently close to the beach, we have several options at our disposal.

From the airport or Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa

• Taxi: This is the most comfortable and direct option. Authorized taxis wait outside the airport and will take us directly to our accommodation or a specific point on the beach. The journey from the airport to the Playa Blanca area usually takes just 10-15 minutes.
• Car rental: For those who prefer the freedom to explore at their own pace, renting a car at the airport is an excellent alternative. This will allow us not only to reach Playa Blanca easily, but also to venture out to discover the charms of Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, and other nearby coastal towns like Troncones or La Barrita. The road is generally easy to access and well signposted.
• Public transport (limited): Although less direct, there are some public transport routes connecting Zihuatanejo with areas near Playa Blanca. However, for greater comfort and speed, especially with luggage, we recommend the taxi or car rental options.

When we talk about Playa Blanca, one of the first aspects that captivates us is the quality of its sand and the beauty of its waters. It is, without a doubt, one of its main attractions and what makes it such a desired destination for relaxation.

Golden and soft sand

The sand of Playa Blanca is predominantly fine and of a beautiful golden hue. Walking on it, we feel an exquisite softness under our feet, making it perfect for long barefoot walks, building sandcastles, or simply lying down to sunbathe. Its expanse means that, even on busier days, we can always find a quiet corner to spread out our towel and enjoy privacy. It's sand that invites contact, to feel the earth beneath us and to let ourselves be carried away by the feeling of freedom that only a beach like this can offer.

Warm and tempting waters

The Pacific waters at Playa Blanca are, for the most part, warm and clear, with shades ranging from turquoise to deep blue. The temperature is ideal for a refreshing dip at any time of the day. In general, the waves are usually moderate, making it suitable for safe swimming and enjoyment. However, as with any ocean beach, it's important to be aware of currents and lifeguard instructions, if present. In some areas, especially towards the ends of the beach, the waves can be a bit more pronounced, attracting those who enjoy playing in them or even some beginner surfers. The clarity of the water, although not comparable to some Caribbean beaches, allows us to appreciate the sandy bottom and, at times, see small fish swimming near the shore. It's a delight to immerse yourself in this aquatic embrace and feel the stress dissolve with each wave.

Although Playa Blanca prides itself on its natural and less developed atmosphere, it does not lack the essential services that guarantee a comfortable and pleasant stay. We believe the balance between the natural and the practical is one of its great successes.

• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the beach, especially in the more accessible areas, we find a variety of rustic 'enramadas' or chiringuitos and beach restaurants. These establishments are true culinary treasures where we can taste fresh seafood, grilled fish (a local specialty), ceviches, and other Mexican delicacies. We love the authenticity of these places, where the atmosphere is relaxed and the sea view is unbeatable. Many also offer refreshing drinks and cocktails to beat the heat.
• Umbrellas and Sunbeds: Most chiringuitos and some beachfront hotels offer the rental of umbrellas and sunbeds (or 'palapas' with their loungers) for a modest price, often free if we consume at the establishment. This allows us to enjoy the shade and comfort without having to car
