How to Get to Playa de M'diq

Getting to Playa de M'diq is relatively straightforward, given its popularity and excellent location in the Tetouan province. We always recommend planning transportation in advance, especially when traveling during the peak summer season, when visitor numbers are highest.

From Tetouan

The city of Tetouan, with its UNESCO World Heritage-listed medina, is the main land access point to M'diq. The distance between Tetouan and M'diq is approximately 20 kilometers, which translates to a journey of about 25-35 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

• By private or rental car: This is the most comfortable and flexible option. The road is modern and well-signposted. We can follow the N13 heading north, or take the P4701, which runs along the coast and offers spectacular panoramic views. There are several paid parking lots available in M'diq, especially near the beach and the port.
• By taxi: 'Grand taxis' (shared taxis) are a very popular and economical way to travel between cities in Morocco. We can find them at the taxi stations in Tetouan. Sharing a taxi with other passengers significantly reduces the cost, although we can also negotiate a price for an exclusive taxi. 'Petits taxis' (small taxis) operate within the city and are ideal for short trips, but not for the intercity route to M'diq.
• By bus: Several local bus lines connect Tetouan with M'diq. It is the most economical option, although it can be less direct and slower. Bus stops are usually well located in both places.

From Ceuta

For those arriving from the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta, Playa de M'diq is a very accessible destination. The distance is approximately 25-30 kilometers, and the journey usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes, not counting border crossing time. It's important to remember that we must pass through the Tarajal border post, which can take time, especially on holidays or weekends.

• By car: After crossing the border, we can take the coastal road that passes through Fnideq (Castillejos) and Martil. The views of the Mediterranean are constant and beautiful. As from Tetouan, there are parking lots available in M'diq.
• By taxi: From the border or from the center of Fnideq, it's easy to find 'grand taxis' that will take us directly to M'diq. It is advisable to agree on the price before starting the trip.

Other Points of Origin

If we come from more distant cities like Tangier (approximately 70 km) or Chefchaouen (approximately 60 km), the best option is a private car or a 'grand taxi' connecting to Tetouan, and from there, follow the previous directions. Tangier also has an international airport (Tangier Ibn Battuta, TNG), which facilitates the arrival of air travelers who can then transfer by road.

We always advise carrying some change in Moroccan dirhams for taxis and small expenses, as not all taxi drivers accept euros, and it's convenient to have the local currency on hand.

The sand at Playa de M'diq is fine and golden, with a soft, pleasant texture. This makes it a perfect place to walk barefoot, build sandcastles with children, or simply lie down and enjoy the sun. The beach's expanse is considerable, offering ample space even on the busiest days. We always appreciate beaches with fine sand because they minimize the discomfort of sticky sand and make cleaning up after a beach day easier.
