How to Get to Playa de Elias

Getting to Playa de Elias is relatively straightforward, although it requires a small detour from the main road that runs through the island of Skiathos. We always recommend renting a car, a motorbike, or a quad to have total freedom of movement and explore the island at your own pace. From Skiathos Town, the journey is approximately 14-16 kilometers, which translates to about 25-30 minutes by car, depending on traffic and speed.

By Car or Motorbike

If we opt for a private vehicle, we must take the main road heading towards the west of the island, passing famous beaches like Koukounaries. A few kilometers before reaching the latter, we will find clear signage indicating the turn-off for Playa de Elias (often also signposted as Elia Beach). The road is paved and in good condition, although the last few meters to access the beach can be a bit narrower and winding. Once there, you will find designated Parking areas, usually associated with the beach's chiringuitos or restaurants, where you can leave your vehicle without major complications. It is important to remember that in high season, these parking lots can fill up quickly, so it is advisable to arrive early.

By Bus

For those who prefer public transport, the Skiathos bus network is quite efficient and connects Skiathos Town with the main beaches on the south and west coast. The nearest bus stop to Playa de Elias is stop 22 or 23 (Koukounaries). From there, you will have to walk a good stretch (approximately 20-30 minutes) or take a local taxi to reach the beach. Although it is a more economical option, the walk under the sun can be exhausting, so we consider it less comfortable for direct access to Elias.

By Taxi

A comfortable alternative, especially if we are in a group, is to take a taxi from Skiathos Town. Taxis are plentiful in the capital and will take you directly to the beach. The cost is higher than the bus, but the comfort and speed compensate, especially if we don't want to worry about parking or directions. Simply ask the driver to take you to 'Elia Beach' and they will drop you off right at the entrance.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Elias is a feast for the senses, and much of its charm lies in the characteristics of its sand and waters. We were captivated by the softness of its golden blanket under our feet and the crystal clarity of the Aegean that bathes it.

The sand of Playa de Elias is, without a doubt, one of its greatest virtues. It is fine, soft sand, of an intense golden color that shines under the Greek sun. It is a pleasure to walk barefoot on it, feel its warmth, and enjoy the feeling of cleanliness it conveys. This quality of sand is ideal for lying down, building sandcastles with children, or simply enjoying a pleasant walk along the shore. Unlike other beaches of Skiathos that may have pebble areas, Elias is predominantly pure sand, making it a very comfortable place to spend the day.

Turquoise and Crystal-Clear Waters

The waters that bathe Playa de Elias are simply stunning. Their transparency is such that we can see the seabed with total clarity, even several meters deep. The predominant color is a vibrant turquoise that mixes with deep blue tones as we move away from the shore, creating a spectacular visual contrast. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, making it very safe for swimmers of all ages, including the youngest in the family. Few things are as rewarding as diving into these refreshing waters and feeling the caress of the Aegean.
