How to get to Playa de Kamares

Getting to Playa de Kamares is, in itself, part of the adventure and the ease of our trip to Sifnos. As the main port of the island, Kamares is the landing point for most visitors arriving by ferry from Piraeus (Athens) or from other islands in the Cyclades archipelago, such as Milos, Serifos or Paros. The arrival at the port is already a beautiful picture, with the white village climbing the hillside and the beach stretching along the bay, welcoming us with its turquoise waters. The port infrastructure is modern and efficient, facilitating a hassle-free disembarkation, even in high season.

From Athens and other islands

The ferry journey from the port of Piraeus in Athens usually takes between 2.5 and 5 hours, depending on the type of ship (conventional or high-speed). Companies such as Aegean Speedlines, Seajets or Zante Ferries operate this route regularly, offering multiple daily schedules during the high season. Once we disembark, the beach is literally a few steps away, making it incredibly accessible. If we come from other Sifnos beaches or nearby islands, the logistics are equally simple, with frequent connections that make Sifnos an important communication hub in the western Cyclades.

Transport on the island

Once in Kamares, mobility around the island is very comfortable. We can choose from:

• Bus: There is an excellent network of public buses connecting Kamares with Apollonia (the capital of Sifnos) and other main villages and Sifnos beaches such as Platis Gialos, Faros or Vathy. The bus stop is conveniently located near the port, and the schedules are reliable, especially in summer. It's an economical and ecological option for exploring.
• Vehicle rental: For those who prefer the freedom to explore at their own pace, there are several car, motorbike or quad rental agencies in Kamares. It's a highly recommended option for discovering hidden coves, stunning viewpoints and picturesque corners of the island on our own, although always with caution on the mountain roads.
• Taxis: We also have taxi services available. Although somewhat more expensive, they offer comfort and speed, especially if we are travelling with a lot of luggage or at night.

The sand and the water

Playa de Kamares captivates us with its perfect combination of sand and sea. The sand here is a soft golden hue, incredibly fine to the touch, making it ideal for walking barefoot and for the little ones to play building sandcastles without worrying about stones or pebbles. We love how it stretches along the bay, offering ample space to relax without feeling crowded, even on the busiest days. It's the kind of sand that invites you to spread out your towel and enjoy hours of sun and tranquillity.

The waters are, without exaggeration, a marvel. They are extraordinarily crystal clear and shallow, making them a paradise for families with children and for those simply seeking a relaxing swim. We can walk out several metres and the water will barely cover our knees, allowing the little ones to splash around in complete safety under our supervision. Kamares Bay is well protected from the prevailing winds, which means the sea is usually calm, inviting us to take a refreshing and peaceful dip. The colour of the water varies between turquoise and emerald blue, reflecting the sky and creating a visual spectacle that takes our breath away. It's the kind of water that invites us to spend hours and hours swimming, floating or simply enjoying its freshness under the Greek sun, feeling the caress of the Aegean.
