How to Get to Playa de Balos

The most common and recommended way to access is by car, although the last stretch of the road can be a challenge for some drivers.

By Car

If we are coming from Samos Town (Vathy) or Pythagoreio, the journey will take us west, towards Marathokampos. Once we pass this village, we must follow the signs towards the coast. The paved road ends at some point and gives way to a dirt track. This stretch, although passable, is narrow and winding, with some steep slopes and loose gravel. We advise driving with caution and at low speed, especially if we are not used to this type of road. A rental car with good ground clearance (like an SUV) might be more comfortable, although a standard car driven carefully is sufficient. At the end of the road, we will find an informal parking area, usually free, where we can leave our vehicle before descending to the beach.

By Boat

Another charming, and perhaps more relaxing, option is to reach Playa de Balos by boat. During the high season, excursions on small boats or 'kaikis' are usually organized from nearby ports like Ormos Marathokampos or even from Votsalakia (Kampos). These excursions allow us to enjoy the coastal landscape from a different perspective and often include stops for swimming in other coves. It is an excellent alternative if we prefer to avoid the dirt road and enjoy a full day at sea. If we choose this route, we must ensure we have proper footwear, enough water, and sun protection, as the terrain can be uneven and sun exposure considerable.
