How to Get to Playa de Kalathos

Getting to Playa de Kalathos is a simple and pleasant part of our adventure in Rhodes, and the transport options are varied, allowing us to choose the one that best suits our travel style. For us, the most comfortable and recommended way to explore the island and, of course, reach this paradise corner, is by renting a car. The freedom a personal vehicle offers is incomparable; we can stop at any viewpoint that captivates us, visit picturesque villages not on the main bus routes, and generally move at our own pace. From Rhodes International Airport (RHO), Playa de Kalathos is about 45-50 kilometers away, which translates to a journey of approximately 50 minutes to an hour by car, depending on traffic. The route is straightforward and well-signposted, following the main east coast road that takes us south on the island, passing through Faliraki and Kolymbia before reaching our destination. The views during the journey are already a prelude to the beauty awaiting us.

If we are coming from the capital, Rhodes Town, the distance is similar, about 45 kilometers, and the travel time is practically the same. We just need to follow the same coastal road heading south. It's important to remember that, although driving in Greece is generally relaxed, we should always pay attention to signs and speed limits. Once we approach Kalathos, we will find clear signs to the beach and, even better, ample free parking areas right behind the sand line. This is a great advantage, as it makes our lives much easier and allows us to arrive with all our beach gear without worries.

For those who prefer not to drive, public transport is a viable alternative, though with less flexibility. Rhodes's bus network is quite efficient and connects the main towns and attractions. There are regular buses departing from the central station in Rhodes Town heading south, with stops in Kalathos. The bus journey from Rhodes Town may take a bit longer, perhaps an hour and a quarter or an hour and a half, as it makes several intermediate stops. It is advisable to check the updated schedules at the station or online, as they can vary by season. If we are staying in Lindos, the nearby and picturesque town, the trip to Playa de Kalathos is much shorter, just 10-15 minutes by car or a brief bus ride. This proximity makes the beach an excellent option for a day trip from Lindos.

Finally, taxis are another option, albeit more expensive. We can easily find taxis at the airport, in Rhodes Town, and in Lindos. It is recommended to agree on the price with the driver before starting the journey, or ensure the taximeter is running. For shorter trips, like from Lindos, a taxi can be a convenient option if we don't want to worry about parking. Whatever our choice, getting to Playa de Kalathos is the first step to immersing ourselves in the serenity and beauty of this magical place on the beaches of Rhodes.

The Sand and Water

The quality of the sand and the purity of the water are, without a doubt, two of the most outstanding attributes of Playa de Kalathos, making it a true paradise for sea lovers. The sand here is predominantly fine, of a soft golden tone that shines under the Greek sun. It is a delight to walk barefoot on it, feeling its softness under our feet, without the discomfort of stones or pebbles we sometimes find on other beaches. Its length allows us to always find a quiet spot to spread our towel, build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply lie down to sunbathe.
