How to get to Playa de Panormos

Getting to Playa de Panormos is relatively easy, making it an accessible destination for all types of travelers visiting the Rethymno (Crete) beaches. The beach is located on the north coast of Crete, approximately 20 kilometers east of the city of Rethymno and about 58 kilometers west of Heraklion, the island's capital. This means it is strategically located between the two main airports of Crete, facilitating access.

By car

For us, the most comfortable and flexible option to explore Crete, and therefore to get to Panormos, is to rent a car. From Heraklion Airport (HER) or Chania Airport (CHQ), you can take the E75 national highway that runs along the island's north coast. Panormos is well signposted. Simply follow the signs to Rethymno if coming from the east (Heraklion) or to Heraklion if coming from the west (Chania), and look for the exit to Panormos. The journey from Rethymno takes about 20-25 minutes, and from Heraklion, approximately 1 hour. The village has parking areas, some of them free near the beach, which is a great advantage.

By bus

If you prefer not to drive, public transport in Crete, operated by the KTEL company, is a reliable alternative. There are regular buses connecting Rethymno with Panormos several times a day. The trip is economical and offers the chance to enjoy the scenery. From Heraklion, you would first need to take a bus to Rethymno and then transfer to Panormos. Schedules are usually available at bus stations and online, although we always recommend checking updated timetables, especially outside the high season.

By taxi or private transfer

For those seeking maximum comfort, especially if traveling with a lot of luggage or in a group, a taxi or private transfer from the airport or any other city is an excellent option. Although more expensive, it will take you directly to your accommodation in Panormos without worries. You can book these services in advance through your hotel or local transport companies.
