How to Get to Playa de Harami

Getting to Playa de Harami is part of the experience and offers us a first glimpse of Paxos's beauty. This cove is located very close to the picturesque village of Lakka, in the northern part of the island. Paxos, being a small island, does not have an airport, so the main access is by ferry from Corfu (Kerkyra) or, to a lesser extent, from the Greek mainland (Igoumenitsa). Once in Paxos, you will generally arrive at the port of Gaios, the island's capital.

From Gaios to Lakka

From Gaios, you have several options to get to Lakka, the starting point for Harami:

• By car or motorbike: Renting a vehicle is a comfortable way to explore Paxos. The journey from Gaios to Lakka takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Once in Lakka, you can park in the designated village areas. In high season, finding parking can be a challenge, so we recommend arriving early.
• By local bus: There is a bus service connecting Gaios, Loggos, and Lakka. It is an economical option, although with more limited schedules. Always check the updated timetables.
• By taxi: A quick and direct option, though more expensive. You can find them at the port of Gaios.

From Lakka to Playa de Harami

Once in Lakka, Playa de Harami is a short walk away, which is a great advantage:

• On foot: This is the most common and recommended way. From the center of Lakka, there is a paved path that borders the bay and will take you directly to the beach in just 5-10 minutes. It is a very pleasant walk, suitable for almost everyone, perfect for enjoying the views of the bay and the anchored boats. We loved this morning walk, which prepared us for the beach day.
• By boat: If you are coming from other parts of the island in your own or a rented boat, it is possible to anchor near the beach, offering a unique perspective of the cove.

When talking about Playa de Harami, it is impossible not to dedicate a special section to its most distinctive features: the type of shore that composes it and the purity of its waters. These two elements are, to a large extent, responsible for its undeniable appeal and the unique experience it offers its visitors. We are faced with a beach that, although not fine sand, possesses a particular charm that makes it unforgettable among the beaches of Paxos.

The Pebble Shore

The first thing we noticed when approaching Playa de Harami is that its shoreline is not covered by traditional sand. Instead, we are greeted by an expanse of white, round pebbles, polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves. This type of shore, common in many Greek beaches of the Ionian, has its own advantages:

• Comfort: The pebbles at Harami are small and smooth enough to be pleasant underfoot. Walking on them is like receiving a gentle natural massage. However, we recommend wearing suitable footwear, such as water shoes or rubber sandals, to facilitate access to the water and mobility along the shore, especially if you have sensitive feet.
• Cleanliness: One of the great advantages of pebble beaches is their exceptional cleanliness. With no sand to be lifted by the wind or mixed with the water, the environment remains spotless. Furthermore, the pebbles do not stick to the skin or towels, which makes cleaning up after a beach day much easier.
• Aesthetics: The combination of white pebbles with the green tones of the surrounding vegetation and the vibrant blue of the sea creates a visually stunning contrast, ideal for photography.

The Crystal-Clear Waters

But if the shore is notable, the water at Playa de Harami is simply spectacular. We dare say it is one of the cleanest and most transparent waters we have found in the Mediterranean. Its hue varies from a turquoise blue at the shore to a deep blue as you go further out, revealing a seabed full of life and detail.

• Clarity and Visibility: The absence of suspended sand allows for exceptional underwater visibility. This makes Harami a paradise for snorkeling lovers. We were amazed to observe the small fish swimming among the rocks and underwater vegetation, without needing to go far out.
