How to Get to Playa de Vatera

Getting to Playa de Vatera is a simple and pleasant part of the adventure on Lesbos. The island has Mytilene International Airport 'Odysseas Elytis' (MJT), which receives flights from Athens and other European cities, especially during the summer season. Once in Mytilene, the capital of Lesbos, we have several options to head south to this idyllic stretch of coast.

From Mytilene

The most comfortable and recommended way to reach Playa de Vatera is by rental car. The journey from Mytilene takes about an hour, covering a distance of approximately 50-60 kilometers. The route is scenic, winding through olive groves and small traditional villages that offer us an authentic glimpse of Greek rural life. Several car rental companies are available at the airport and in Mytilene city, and we always suggest booking in advance, especially if traveling in high season, to ensure availability and get better rates.

For those who prefer not to drive, there are regular bus services from Mytilene to Polichnitos, the town closest to Vatera. From Polichnitos, we can take a local taxi for the short final leg to the beach. Although this option is more economical, it can be less flexible regarding schedules and stops, so we recommend checking bus timetables in advance, as they may vary by season.

The Sand and Water
