How to Get to Playa de Xirokampos

We recommend flying to Athens or a nearby island with an international airport (like Rhodes or Kos) and from there taking a domestic flight to Leros (Leros airport, LGS, is small but functional) or a ferry. Ferries are a popular and picturesque option, connecting Leros with the port of Piraeus in Athens, as well as with other Dodecanese islands. The ferry crossing is a wonderful opportunity to soak up the Greek maritime atmosphere and watch the islands appear on the horizon.

Once on Leros, whether at the port of Lakki or Agia Marina, the journey to Xirokampos is relatively straightforward. The most comfortable and flexible way to get around the island is to rent a car or a scooter. There are several rental agencies in the main towns and ports. The road leading to Xirokampos is well signposted and offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the mountainous landscape of Leros. The drive from Lakki, the main port, takes about 10-15 minutes. From Platanos, the capital, or Agia Marina, the journey is similar. The road is winding but in good condition, allowing us to enjoy the scenery without rush. There is also a public bus service, although its frequency may be limited, especially outside the high season. If we opt for a taxi, they are available at the ports, and the cost is reasonable. We always advise having a map of the island or using GPS so as not to miss any of the small coves and corners that Leros has to offer on the way to Playa de Xirokampos.

Furthermore, the water's transparency makes snorkeling a very rewarding activity. We have spent hours observing marine life: small colorful fish, starfish, and underwater rock formations that create a fascinating ecosystem. The visibility is excellent, allowing us to explore the seabed with total clarity, an experience we highly recommend to anyone visiting this wonderful Leros beach.

Despite its tranquil and relatively undeveloped atmosphere, Playa de Xirokampos does not lack the essential services that make a day at the beach comfortable and pleasant. We highly value the presence of amenities that, without detracting from the natural charm of the place, make the stay easier. In Xirokampos, we find a good combination of the rustic and the functional.

One of the advantages is the availability of parking. Although it is not a formal, paved parking lot, there is enough space along the road bordering the beach and in adjacent areas to park vehicles for free and without complications. This is a plus for those who, like us, prefer the flexibility of moving by car or scooter.
