How to Get to Playa de Alinda

Getting to Playa de Alinda is part of the adventure and charm of visiting an island like Leros. The island has a small domestic airport (LGS) that receives flights from Athens, especially during the high season. If you arrive by plane in Athens, you can take a connecting flight to Leros. It's a quick and comfortable option, although flights are usually less frequent than ferries.

The most traditional and picturesque way to get to Leros, and the one we prefer to immerse ourselves in the Greek atmosphere, is by ferry. From the port of Piraeus in Athens, there are regular connections to Leros. The ferry journey can take between 8 and 10 hours, depending on the type of ship and the intermediate stops at other Aegean islands. It's a crossing that offers spectacular sea views and the chance to feel the sea breeze as you approach your destination.

Once in Leros

Once you disembark at Leros's main port, Lakki, or at Agia Marina, access to Playa de Alinda is quite straightforward. Alinda is located on the east coast of the island, a short distance from Platanos, the traditional capital, and Agia Marina.

• By taxi: This is the quickest and most direct option from the port. Taxis are available at the ferry terminals and will take you to Alinda in a matter of minutes.
• By local bus: Leros has a bus service connecting the main towns and beaches. The routes are reliable, although schedules may be less frequent outside the high season. It's an economical way to get around and experience local life.
• Vehicle rental: For us, renting a car, a motorbike, or even a quad is the best way to explore Leros at your own pace. There are several rental agencies in Lakki and Agia Marina. With your own vehicle, you will not only easily reach Playa de Alinda, but you will also have the freedom to discover hidden coves and charming villages all over the island. The road leading to Alinda is well signposted and offers panoramic views of the landscape.

The Sand and the Water

Furthermore, being sheltered, Alinda Bay hardly experiences strong currents or large waves, maintaining a constant calm that is a balm for the soul.
