How to Get to Playa de Agios Ioannis

Getting to Playa de Agios Ioannis is relatively easy, especially if we are in Lemnos' capital, Myrina. The distance from Myrina is approximately 7 to 8 kilometers, which translates into a journey of about 15-20 minutes by car.

From Myrina

• By car or motorcycle: This is the most comfortable and flexible option. We can rent a vehicle at Lemnos Airport or directly in Myrina. The road is in good condition and the signs towards Kaspakas and Agios Ioannis are clear. There is a free, though informal, parking area near the beach, which facilitates access.
• By bus: During the high season, there are bus services connecting Myrina with nearby villages, including Kaspakas. From Kaspakas, the beach is a short walk away, though it is downhill. We recommend checking the schedules, as they can be limited.
• By taxi: A faster and more direct option, especially if we don't want to worry about parking. The cost is reasonable for such a short trip.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Agios Ioannis stands out for its exquisite combination of sand and sea, elements that make it so attractive to visitors of all ages. When we talk about the sand, we refer to a soft and fine layer of golden color, which invites walking barefoot and laying out a towel to enjoy the sun. It is not sand that sticks excessively, which makes cleaning up at the end of the day easier. The predominant type of ground is, without a doubt, sand, without annoying rocks or pebbles to hinder walking.

As for the water, it is simply spectacular. We are faced with crystal-clear waters, of a turquoise blue hue that becomes more intense as we go further in. The transparency is such that we can easily observe the seabed, even several meters deep. Furthermore, one of its most appreciated characteristics, especially by families, is that the waters are shallow near the shore, allowing children to play safely and less experienced swimmers to feel comfortable. The water temperature is usually very pleasant during the summer months, inviting long swims and refreshing dips under the Greek sun.

Playa de Agios Ioannis is a well-organized beach, which means it offers an excellent range of services and facilities to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for all its visitors. They have thought of every detail so that our experience is as relaxing as possible:

• Sun umbrellas and sunbeds: Along the beach, we find numerous rows of sun umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds available for rent. This allows us to enjoy the sun without worries and have a shady spot to rest.
• Beach Bars and Tavernas: Several beach bars and traditional tavernas line the edge of the sand, offering everything from refreshments and cocktails to delicious dishes of local cuisine. It's the perfect place to enjoy a light meal or a dinner with sea views. Some of them even offer waiter service directly at the sunbeds.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: For our comfort, the beach has shower facilities to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and well-maintained toilets.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the presence of lifeguards ensures the safety of swimmers, giving us greater peace of mind, especially if we are traveling with children.
• Parking: Although it is not a formal, signposted parking lot, there are ample areas where we can park our vehicle free of charge, very close to the beach entrance.
• Blue Flag: Playa de Agios Ioannis proudly flies the Blue Flag, an international distinction that certifies the excellent quality of its waters, the cleanliness of the beach, and the sustainability of its services. This assures us that we are visiting one of the best Lemnos beaches in terms of quality and respect for the environment.

Best Time to Visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Agios Ioannis in Lemnos will largely depend on our personal preferences regarding climate and crowds. We have identified three key periods:

High Season (July and August)

• Advantages: Guaranteed warm and sunny weather, ideal for fully enjoying the sea. All beach and surrounding services are in full operation. Vibrant and social atmosphere, perfect if we are looking to meet people and enjoy nightlife at the beach bars. This is when the island is at its peak tourist expression.
