How to Get to Playa de Achlia

Getting to Playa de Achlia is part of the adventure and, at the same time, surprisingly simple, making it a fantastic option for a day trip or a longer stay. We always recommend renting a car to explore Crete, and for Achlia, this is the most comfortable and practical option. From Ierapetra, the nearest city and an important center in southern Lasithi, the drive is just 10-15 minutes, following the coastal road east. The route is scenic, offering us spectacular views of the Aegean Sea that already prepare us for the beauty that awaits. The signage is clear, and the cove is easily identifiable.

Although a car is the best option, it is not the only one. There are also bus connections from Ierapetra that can take us close to the Achlia area, although the frequency and exact stop may vary, so it is always a good idea to check local schedules in advance. Once in the vicinity, we will find free parking areas, though often informal, along the road descending to the beach. In high season, these spaces can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early if we want to secure a good spot. The walk from the parking area to the sand is short and easy, suitable for all ages, which adds an extra point to its accessibility. Furthermore, around the beach we will find one or two chiringuitos or small tavernas where we can refresh ourselves with a cold drink, enjoy a Greek coffee, or even savor a light lunch with sea views.
