Getting to the beautiful Playa de Kantouni in Kalymnos is relatively straightforward, and the transportation options are varied, allowing us to choose the one that best suits our preferences and budget. If we land at Kalymnos Airport (which receives domestic and some international charter flights), the beach is a manageable distance of about 5-7 kilometers, depending on the exact route. From the main port of Pothia, the island's capital, the distance is similar, making it an easy day trip or a perfect base for our stay.

By Rental Car or Motorbike

The most comfortable and flexible way to explore Kalymnos and reach Playa de Kantouni is undoubtedly by renting a car or motorbike. There are several rental agencies in Pothia and near the airport. The roads in Kalymnos are generally good and well-signposted, although they can be a bit narrow and winding in some mountainous areas. From Pothia, we will take the road heading west, passing through Chora and Myrties, until we reach the sign for Kantouni. The journey usually takes about 15-20 minutes, offering us picturesque views of the island landscape along the way. The freedom that having our own vehicle gives us is invaluable for discovering not only Playa de Kantouni beach but also other hidden corners of the island.

By Local Bus

Kalymnos has a public bus system that connects the main towns and beaches. Although schedules may be less frequent than in other destinations, it is an economical and authentic option for getting around. Buses depart from Pothia and pass through coastal villages, including a stop near Kantouni. The path is pleasant and allows us to appreciate the local flora and fauna. However, in the summer months, the heat can be intense, so it is vital to carry enough water and sun protection.
