How to Get to Playa de Almyrida

From there, Almyrida is about a 30-40 minute drive, making the transfer quick and comfortable.

By Car

We highly recommend renting a car if you plan to explore the region. The freedom of movement it offers is invaluable for discovering the charms of Crete. From the airport or from the city of Chania, the route to Almyrida is direct. Simply take the main road heading east, following signs towards Souda and then towards Kalyves and Almyrida. The journey is picturesque, winding through olive groves and small traditional villages, offering a first taste of authentic Crete.

By Bus

For those who prefer not to drive, there is the option of public transport. From the central bus station in Chania, there are regular services connecting to Kalyves and Almyrida. Schedules vary by season, so it is advisable to check them in advance. While it is a more economical option, it can be less flexible, especially if you are traveling with a lot of luggage or with children.

We are faced with a beach of fine, golden sand, incredibly soft to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot or building sandcastles with the children. The predominant 'ground type' is sand, which guarantees a smooth and pleasant entry into the sea, without uncomfortable rocks or pebbles underfoot for most of the main beach.

The waters are the most distinctive feature of Almyrida. They are exceptionally crystal-clear, with a clarity that allows you to see the seabed even at some depth. Furthermore, they are notably calm and shallow, especially near the shore. This is because the beach is located in a protected bay, which shelters it from strong currents and large waves. This combination of fine sand and serene waters makes Playa de Almyrida a paradise for swimmers of all ages and levels, and an extraordinary place for children to play in complete safety. • Chiringuitos and Restaurants: The beachfront is dotted with charming chiringuitos, cafes, and tavernas offering everything from refreshments and snacks to full meals with delicious local dishes. It's ideal for a quick lunch or a dinner with sea views.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: Near the sunbed rental areas and close to the establishments, we find showers to rinse off salt and sand, as well as clean and accessible toilets.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard services, which increases the peace of mind and safety of bathers, especially for families with children.
• Parking: While there is no large centralized parking lot, there are on-street parking zones and small designated spaces in the vicinity of the village, facilitating access to the beach.
• Equipment Rental: For lovers of water sports, there are rental points for equipment like kayaks, paddle surf (SUP) boards, and even small pedal boats. It's an excellent way to explore the bay from another perspective.
• Sports Area and Children's Area: The calm waters are ideal for gentle sports. Furthermore, the beach itself, with its sand and shallow waters, acts as a great natural 'children's area', often complemented by small parks or play areas on the promenade.
