Introduction

From the moment we set foot on Playa de Arkasa, on the charming island of Karpathos, we knew we had found a true treasure. Located on the west coast, near the picturesque village of Arkasa, this beach welcomed us with its embrace of golden sand and turquoise waters, so serene they seemed taken from a postcard. It is not a party beach, nor one with large crowds, but a haven of peace where time seems to slow down, inviting us to enjoy the natural beauty and warmth of the Aegean.

The Playa de Arkasa is, without a doubt, one of those Karpathos beaches that stays etched in memory. Its relaxed atmosphere, the cleanliness of its waters, and the comfort of its services make it a favorite destination for families and couples looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle. Here, the sun kisses the sand with a delicious intensity, and the sea breeze gently caresses us, promising days of pure enjoyment under the Greek sky. How to Get to Playa de Arkasa

Getting to Playa de Arkasa is relatively straightforward, although, as with most Greek islands, having your own means of transport will provide unparalleled freedom to explore. The island of Karpathos has its own international airport (AOK), which receives flights from Athens and other European cities during the high season. Once at the airport, located about 15 kilometers south of Arkasa, we have several options:

Car or Motorbike Rental

Our main recommendation is to rent a car or motorbike. The roads in Karpathos are generally good, and having our own vehicle will allow us not only to comfortably reach Playa de Arkasa, but also to explore the charming villages and other Karpathos beaches with total autonomy. There are several rental agencies at the airport and in the capital, Pigadia (Karpathos Town). The journey from the airport to Arkasa is short, about 20-25 minutes, and from Pigadia, the capital, it will take us approximately 30-40 minutes along a scenic road.

Taxi

Taxis are available at the airport and in the main towns. It is a comfortable option if we do not wish to drive, although it can be more expensive if we plan to move around frequently. The price from the airport to Arkasa is around 25-30 euros, depending on the season and time.

Bus

There is a public bus service in Karpathos, although its frequency is limited, especially outside the high season. There are routes connecting Pigadia with Arkasa, but it is important to check the updated schedules, as they are not always convenient for getting directly to the beach or for moving around at night. If we choose this option, once in the village of Arkasa, the beach is a short walk away.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Arkasa is a delight for the senses, and its sand and water are, without a doubt, its main attractions. We found fine-grained sand of a beautiful golden color, which under the sun takes on a special shine. It is soft, pleasant-to-the-touch sand, perfect for laying out a towel and enjoying a good book, or for the little ones to build sandcastles without difficulty. The predominant ground type is, as expected, sand, which facilitates access and comfort when walking barefoot.

But if the sand is a strong point, the water is simply spectacular. The waters of Playa de Arkasa are famous for their transparency and intense turquoise color. They are incredibly crystal-clear, allowing us to see the seabed clearly, which is a delight for snorkeling. Furthermore, they are notably calm and shallow near the shore, making them an exceptionally safe and pleasant place for swimming, even for less experienced swimmers and, above all, for children. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is warm and very inviting, making every dip a true pleasure at this Karpathos beach.

• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: Most of the beach is organized with rows of umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds that we can rent for a modest price. This is ideal for protecting ourselves from the Mediterranean sun and enjoying a day of relaxation without worrying about bringing our own equipment.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the beach and in its vicinity, there are several chiringuitos and tavernas offering refreshments, ice cream, snacks, and delicious meals. We can enjoy a Greek coffee in the morning, a light lunch, or a sunset dinner with sea views. The proximity to the village of Arkasa also provides more dining options just a few minutes' walk away.
