How to Get to Playa de Amoopi

Getting to Playa de Amoopi is quite straightforward, making it a very accessible option for any type of traveler in Karpathos. Amoopi is located approximately 6-7 kilometers south of Pigadia, the island's capital, also known as Karpathos Town. For us, the most comfortable way to get there is by rental car or scooter, which gives us the freedom to explore other nearby areas. The road is in good condition and the journey is short, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea along the way.

Transportation Options

• Rental car or scooter: There are several rental agencies in Pigadia and at the airport. It's a highly recommended option for getting around the entire island and discovering its hidden treasures. Parking at Amoopi is generally easy to find, with designated areas near the coves.
• Local bus: During the high season, there are regular bus services connecting Pigadia with Amoopi. It's an economical and practical option if we don't wish to rent a vehicle. Schedules are usually available at the bus stops in Pigadia.
• Taxi: We can always opt for a taxi from Pigadia, which is a quick and comfortable option, although a bit more expensive. It's ideal if we're traveling in a group or with a lot of luggage.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Amoopi is famous for its perfect combination of sand and sea, creating an idyllic setting that invites us to dive in and relax. The sand here is predominantly fine and golden, soft to the touch and perfect for building sandcastles or simply walking barefoot along the shore. Although in some of the smaller coves we might find a mix of sand with small pebbles, the overall feeling is of a sandy and very comfortable beach.

A Dreamlike Sea

But if something captivates us about Amoopi, it's its waters. They are incredibly clear, with shades ranging from light turquoise in the shallow areas to a deeper blue as we go further out. The transparency is such that we can see the seabed with total clarity, making it a paradise for snorkeling, even for beginners. Furthermore, the waters of Amoopi are remarkably calm, protected from the prevailing winds, creating a natural pool-like environment.

The entry into the sea is gradual and very shallow, making it exceptionally safe and attractive, especially for families with young children. We can walk out several meters and the water will barely cover our knees, allowing the little ones to play without worries. This feature is, without a doubt, one of the biggest attractions of this Playa de Amoopi, setting it apart from other beaches of Karpathos that may have steeper entries.

• Sunbeds and umbrellas: In most of the Amoopi coves, we find ample areas with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. This allows us to relax comfortably under the Greek sun without worrying about bringing our own equipment. Prices are usually reasonable for a full day of enjoyment.
• Chiringuitos and restaurants: Along the different coves, there are several chiringuitos and traditional tavernas. Here we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or a delicious Greek meal with sea views. It's perfect for a light lunch or a romantic dinner at sunset. We love the convenience of being able to order something and have it served directly to our sunbed.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: For our comfort, there are shower and toilet facilities at various points along the beach. This is especially useful after a refreshing swim in the sea, allowing us to rinse off the salt before returning to the hotel or continuing our day.
• Parking: As mentioned, there are free or paid parking areas very close to the different coves, making access easy if we arrive by car or scooter.
