How to Get to Playa de Agrilaopotamos

Getting to Playa de Agrilaopotamos is relatively straightforward, although we recommend having your own transport for greater comfort and to explore the surroundings of Karpathos. The beach is located in the southern part of the island, very close to Karpathos National Airport (AOK). This makes it one of the first beaches we can visit upon arrival or an excellent option for a final dip before departure.

Transport Options

• Rental car or motorbike: This is the most popular and recommended option. Once at the airport, we can follow the signs south or towards the coast. The road leading to Agrilaopotamos is easily accessible and well-maintained. From Pigadia, the capital of Karpathos, the journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes by car, covering a distance of about 20-25 kilometers. From towns like Arkasa or Finiki, the journey is much shorter, just 10-15 minutes.
• Taxi: We can take a taxi from the airport or from any point on the island. It is a comfortable option, although more expensive than renting a vehicle.
• Bus: The bus service in Karpathos is limited and does not go directly to all beaches. There may be a nearby stop on the main road, but to reach the sand of Agrilaopotamos, we will probably have to walk a stretch or rely on private transport.

Parking

One of the advantages of Agrilaopotamos is that it offers an informal and spacious parking area. Being a less organized beach, we won't find a paved parking lot with marked spaces, but rather a dirt area next to the road or near the windsurfing centers where we can leave our vehicle without any problem. The transparency allows us to see the seabed several meters deep, inviting us to dive in and enjoy a refreshing swim. However, there is a key factor that defines the waters of this beach: the wind.

Agrilaopotamos is famous for its constant and strong winds, especially during the summer months. This phenomenon creates moderate to strong waves, making it a paradise for water sports, but perhaps less ideal for those seeking completely calm, crystal-clear waters for effortless swimming. Nevertheless, on less windy days or in the early morning hours, we can enjoy a calmer swim. The entry into the sea is gradual, making it relatively safe, although we always recommend caution due to possible waves and the presence of windsurfers and kitesurfers in the water.

This means that the services and facilities are more basic, but sufficient to enjoy a full day at the beach, especially if we are looking for adventure and relaxation.
