How to Get to Playa de Lagomandra

Getting to this Greek paradise is part of the adventure and, fortunately, quite straightforward. Playa de Lagomandra is located on the Sithonia peninsula, the 'second leg' of Chalkidiki, and is strategically situated between the popular villages of Nikiti and Neos Marmaras. We always recommend planning the trip in advance to ensure a hassle-free experience.

From Thessaloniki Airport (SKG)

The most common entry point for most international visitors is Thessaloniki International Airport (SKG). From there, we have several options:

• Rental car: This is, without a doubt, the option we prefer and most recommend. Renting a car gives us the freedom to explore not only Playa de Lagomandra, but also the numerous hidden coves and charming surrounding villages at our own pace. The journey from the airport to Lagomandra takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, covering about 90-100 kilometers. The route is simple and well-signposted, mainly along the national road.
• Bus: There is a network of intercity buses (KTEL Halkidikis) connecting Thessaloniki with various locations in Chalkidiki. We would need to take a bus from the Thessaloniki bus station (KTEL Halkidikis, near the airport) bound for Neos Marmaras or Nikiti, and then a taxi or local bus to the beach. While it is a more economical option, it is less flexible and may involve several connections, which could be cumbersome if we are traveling with a lot of luggage or with children.
• Taxi/Private transfer: For those seeking maximum comfort, especially after a long flight, a taxi or private transfer directly from the airport is an excellent alternative. Although it is the most expensive option, it ensures we get to our accommodation at Playa de Lagomandra quickly and without stress.

Within Chalkidiki

Once in Chalkidiki, getting around the area to reach Playa de Lagomandra is quite easy if we have a car. From Nikiti, the journey is about 15-20 minutes south, while from Neos Marmaras, it takes approximately 10-15 minutes north. The coastal road is scenic and offers us spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. At the beach itself, we will find designated Parking areas, which is a great advantage, although in high season they can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early.

The Sand and the Water

The experience at Playa de Lagomandra undoubtedly begins with the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. We always pay special attention to these details, as they are the heart of any beach destination, and here, Lagomandra does not disappoint at all. In fact, it is one of its greatest attractions and one of the reasons why this Chalkidiki beach receives so much praise.

The Sand: A Soft Carpet Under Our Feet

The sand at Playa de Lagomandra is predominantly fine and of a pale golden color, giving it a very attractive appearance under the Mediterranean sun. Although in some areas, especially near the shore or at the ends of the beach, we can find small sections of pebbles or fine gravel, most of the expanse is of soft, pleasant-to-the-touch sand. This makes it the perfect place to walk barefoot, build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply relax on a towel. The transition from the sand to the water is gradual and very comfortable, without sudden changes or unexpected rocks that could make entering the sea difficult.

The Water: Crystal Clear and Tempting

But if the sand is a delight, the water at Playa de Lagomandra is simply spectacular. We are met with crystal-clear waters of turquoise and emerald hues that irresistibly invite us for a swim. The underwater visibility is exceptional, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. We can easily observe small fish swimming among the submerged rocks.
