How to Get to Playa de Daskalio

Getting to Playa de Daskalio is part of the adventure and allows us to appreciate the landscape diversity of Attica. The most comfortable and recommended way to access this coastal corner is, without a doubt, by car. From Athens, the journey takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. We usually take the road that runs along the southern coast, passing through the Athenian Riviera, which is in itself a scenic trip. The route takes us through towns like Lagonisi and Saronida, before turning off towards Keratea.

Once we reach Keratea, the road to Daskalio becomes a bit more rural, with local roads winding through small villages and fields. It's important to follow the signs or, better yet, use a GPS, as the beach is not prominently signposted like other mass tourist destinations. This, in our opinion, contributes to its 'hidden treasure' charm. The last stretch is usually along a narrower path, which can be unpaved in some spots, but is generally accessible for any vehicle.

For those who prefer not to drive, there are public transport options, although they require more patience and planning. We can take an intercity bus (KTEL Attikis) from Athens to Keratea. Once in Keratea, the most practical option to get to the beach would be to take a local taxi. However, we must warn that taxi frequency in this more rural area can be limited, especially outside the high season. Therefore, if we seek maximum comfort and flexibility, renting a car is our main recommendation for exploring Playa de Daskalio and its surroundings.

The Sand and Water

One of the aspects that captivates us most about Playa de Daskalio is the combination of its sand and the quality of its waters. Here, the ground type is a charming mix of sand and small pebbles, which gives it a unique texture and a special shine under the Greek sun. The mixed-grain sand is comfortable for lying on, while the pebbles on the shore and seabed contribute to the exceptional clarity of the water. We recommend bringing water shoes if we plan to walk a lot along the shore or explore the nearby rocky areas, although it's not strictly necessary.

This is a big plus, especially if we're traveling with small children or if we simply want to swim and float without worries.

The water temperature at Playa de Daskalio is pleasantly warm during the summer months, from June to September, peaking in August. Even in May or early October, the water remains warm enough to enjoy a refreshing dip. The cleanliness of the water is constant, reinforcing the feeling of being in a well-preserved natural environment. For us, the combination of its mixed sand and pristine waters make this Playa de Daskalio an exceptional place to enjoy an authentic beach day on the Attica coast.
