How to Get to Playa de Dikella

Getting to Playa de Dikella is a straightforward task, especially if you are in Alexandroupoli (Thrace). We always recommend a car as the most comfortable and flexible option for exploring this region of Greece, as it will allow you to move at your own pace and discover the charming surroundings. From the center of Alexandroupoli, the beach is about 15-20 kilometers to the west, a journey that generally takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

The most direct route usually involves taking the main road that runs along the coast or following signs for the Egnatia Odos (E90) and then turning off towards the beach. The signage is clear, and the road is in good condition. As you approach Dikella, you'll notice the presence of several campsites and small settlements, indicating you're on the right track. Parking in the area is generally ample and free, especially near the chiringuitos and campsites, which greatly facilitates access.

If you prefer not to drive, there is the option of using the local bus service (KTEL) that connects Alexandroupoli with nearby coastal towns. However, frequencies may be limited, especially outside the high season, and stops might not be directly at the beach entrance, requiring an additional walk. For this reason, to maximize your comfort and freedom, a rental car is, in our opinion, the best choice to fully enjoy Playa de Dikella and its surroundings.

Its great length ensures that, even on the busiest summer days, you'll always find a quiet spot for yourselves, without feeling the crowding that often characterizes other beaches in Greece.

But the true jewel of Dikella is its waters. We are talking about crystal-clear waters, of astonishing transparency that allows you to see the sandy bottom with total clarity. Although the beach is mainly sand, at the ends or in some nearby rockier areas, you can practice basic snorkeling to observe small fish and marine life, adding a touch of adventure to your beach day in Alexandroupoli (Thrace).
