How to Get to Playa de Altafulla

Getting to Playa de Altafulla is relatively easy, thanks to its excellent location and the good transport connections surrounding it. We always recommend planning the trip in advance to ensure the best route and avoid setbacks, especially if you travel during the high season.

By Car

If we're coming from Barcelona or Valencia, the most comfortable way is usually by car. Playa de Altafulla is very well connected via the AP-7 motorway (exit 32, Torredembarra-Altafulla) and the N-340 national road. From the motorway exit, the journey to the beach is short and well signposted. Once in Altafulla, you'll find various parking areas, some paid and others free, although in summer they can fill up quickly. We usually look for parking on the streets near the beach or in the designated car parks, which, although sometimes involve a short walk, ensure us a place to leave the vehicle.

By Train

The train is an excellent option if we prefer not to drive or if we're coming from nearby cities like Tarragona or Barcelona. Altafulla has its own station, Altafulla-Tamarit station, just a 15-20 minute walk from the beach. From Barcelona, the Rodalies de Catalunya trains (line R16) connect us directly to Altafulla in approximately one hour and twenty minutes. It's a very pleasant journey, with sea views in many sections, allowing us to start feeling the holiday atmosphere from the moment we board the train.

By Bus

There are bus lines connecting Altafulla with Tarragona and other municipalities in the area. The stops are usually in the town center, from where we can take a pleasant walk to the beach. This option is ideal for day trips or for those staying in nearby towns who wish to visit Playa de Altafulla without worries.

By Plane

For those arriving from farther away, the nearest airports are Reus Airport (approximately 25 km away) and Barcelona-El Prat Airport (about 80 km away). Both airports offer connections to various European cities. From Reus, we can take a taxi or bus to Tarragona and then a train or bus to Altafulla. From Barcelona, the options are similar, with direct trains to Altafulla-Tamarit or bus services that bring us closer to our destination. We have used both options and have always found a way to get there without major complications.

The stretch of sand, over a kilometer long, gives us enough space to find our spot, even on the busiest days. The Water: A Mediterranean Embrace

The waters of Playa de Altafulla are the perfect complement to its sand. We encounter a calm Mediterranean Sea, with generally gentle waves, making it an ideal spot for swimming. The transparency of the water is notable, allowing us to see the seabed in many spots. Furthermore, the entry into the sea is gradual, with little depth for several meters, which is a highly valued characteristic for families with young children. You know that for us safety is paramount, and this quality allows us to be much more at ease while the children splash and play at the water's edge.
