How to Get to Playa de Panxón

Getting to Playa de Panxón is relatively straightforward, making it an accessible destination for many. We, who have traveled countless kilometers in search of the best beaches, can confirm that its strategic location on the Pontevedra coast facilitates access from different points in Galicia and the rest of Spain.

By Car

For us, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option to get to Playa de Panxón. From Vigo, the nearest city and a major transport hub, the journey is short, just about 20-25 minutes. We can take the AG-57 highway, known as the Autopista del Val Miñor, which will take us directly to Nigrán and, from there, the signs to Panxón are clear. If we're coming from the north or south of Galicia, the Atlantic Highway (AP-9) will connect us to Vigo, from where we'll take the AG-57. It's important to consider that, during the summer months, traffic can be heavier and parking, although available in several areas near the beach, may require a bit more patience. There are several public parking areas, both free and paid, a short distance from the beach. Our recommendation is to arrive early to secure a good spot, especially on weekends or holidays.

By Bus

For those who prefer not to drive, public transport is a viable alternative. There are bus lines connecting Vigo with Nigrán and Panxón. Vigo's urban and metropolitan transport company (Vitrasa and ATSA) offers regular routes that will drop us off just a few meters from the beach. It's an option we consider very practical if we want to forget about the car and enjoy a worry-free day at the beach. Schedules are usually more frequent during the high season, so we always advise checking updated routes and timetables before planning the trip.

By Plane

If we're coming from further away, Vigo Airport (Peinador, VGO) is the nearest gateway. From there, we can rent a car or take a taxi that will take us directly to Panxón in approximately 25-30 minutes. Another option is Santiago de Compostela Airport (Lavacolla, SCQ), which is just over an hour away by car and offers more connections, although the journey is longer. We have used both options and, while Santiago has more flights, the convenience of Vigo is undeniable for reaching this area of the Pontevedra beaches.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto Playa de Panxón, the first thing that captivates us is the quality of its sand. We, who have walked on countless beaches, can assure you that here we find fine, golden sand, incredibly soft underfoot. It's the kind of sand that invites you to take off your shoes and feel every grain between your toes, perfect for building sandcastles, for a relaxing stroll or simply for laying out a towel and enjoying the sun. The beach's length, approximately 1,200 meters, means that, even on the busiest days, we can always find a quiet corner to settle in and enjoy the space.

As for the water, Playa de Panxón stands out for its calmness and clarity. Being located inside the Ría de Vigo and protected by the Monteferro peninsula, the waves are minimal, making it an exceptional place for swimming, especially for families with young children. We've noticed that, unlike other more exposed beaches on the Galician coast, the waters here are usually much warmer and safer, with a gentle slope that makes entering the sea easy. The color of the water, which varies between emerald green and turquoise blue tones, reflects its cleanliness and environmental quality, an aspect we greatly value and which is endorsed by the regular awarding of the Blue Flag, a mark of excellence that gives us great confidence.

We love how the tide, when it goes out, reveals a wide strip of wet sand ideal for walking and for the little ones to play without worries. The seabed is predominantly sandy, with no annoying rocks in the swimming area, contributing to a comfortable and safe beach experience.
