How to Get to Playa de Mende

Getting to Playa de Mende is relatively easy, given its location in the metropolitan area of Vigo, Pontevedra. We always recommend planning the route to enjoy it to the fullest from the first moment. If we come by car, the best route is to take the main roads leading to Vigo and, once in the city, head towards the southern coastal area, in the direction of Alcabre or Canido. The signage for the beaches in the area will help us orient ourselves. Although Playa de Mende does not always appear with its own specific sign due to its size, we can look for nearby references such as Avenida de Samil or the beaches of O Vao and Canido, from where it is easy to access this small cove.

By Private Car

For those who opt for the comfort of their own vehicle, access to Playa de Mende is direct. From the center of Vigo, the journey usually takes between 15 and 20 minutes, depending on traffic. There are parking areas on the surrounding streets and, although we will not always find an exclusive parking lot for Playa de Mende, the proximity to other larger beaches guarantees public parking options. During the summer months, especially on weekends, it is advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. We always prefer to look for parking a little further away and enjoy a short walk to the sand, as it often allows us to discover unexpected corners and enjoy the local atmosphere.

Public Transport

If we prefer to leave the car at home, public transport is an excellent alternative. The Vigo urban bus network (Vitrasa) has several lines connecting the city center with the beaches along the coast. The lines heading towards Samil, O Vao, or Canido usually have stops relatively close to Playa de Mende. Once at the nearest stop, we will have to take a short walk to the cove. It is a comfortable and ecological option, allowing us to forget about parking worries and immerse ourselves directly in the beach experience. Access on Foot or by Bicycle

For the more active, Playa de Mende is perfectly accessible on foot or by bicycle. The promenade that borders much of the Vigo coast offers us a beautiful and safe route. From neighboring beaches, such as Samil or O Vao, we can reach Mende with a pleasant walk along the sea, enjoying the views of the estuary and the Cíes Islands. It is a fantastic way to exercise and, at the same time, soak up the natural beauty of the beaches of Pontevedra. We often choose this route when the weather permits, as it gives us a different perspective of the coast and allows us to appreciate every detail of the landscape.

The Sand and the Water

Playa de Mende wins us over, first and foremost, by the quality of its sand. Here, we find fine, golden sand, soft to the touch, inviting us to walk barefoot and feel the caress of the Atlantic under our feet. It is the kind of sand that is perfect for spreading out our towel and enjoying long hours of sun, or for the little ones to build sandcastles effortlessly. Its uniform texture and the absence of large stones or shells make this beach a very comfortable and safe place for all audiences. As for the water, that of Playa de Mende is, as usual in the Rías Baixas, transparent and of excellent quality.
