How to Get to Playa de Canelas

Getting to Playa de Canelas is, fortunately, quite straightforward, which adds to its appeal, especially if we are traveling with children or a lot of luggage. Its location in the municipality of Vilagarcía de Arousa, in the province of Pontevedra, makes it accessible from various routes and means of transport.

By Car

Undoubtedly, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option to get to Canelas. From the center of Vilagarcía de Arousa, the journey is short, just a few minutes. We can take the PO-548 towards Carril and, once there, follow the signs to the beach. The road network in the area is in good condition, facilitating access. If we are coming from nearby cities like Pontevedra or Santiago de Compostela, the Atlantic Highway (AP-9) will bring us to the gates of Vilagarcía, from where the path to the beach is direct. The good thing is that, being a beach with some infrastructure, there is usually parking nearby, although in the heart of August it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot in the early afternoon. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good place.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer not to use a car, there are also public transport options. Vilagarcía de Arousa has a train station and a bus station that connect the city with the main urban centers of Galicia. Once in Vilagarcía, we can opt for a taxi, which will drop us at the beach in a flash, or use the urban bus service if there is a line that goes near the Canelas area. It is advisable to check schedules and routes in advance, especially outside the high season, as frequency may vary.

On Foot or by Bicycle

If we are already staying in Vilagarcía de Arousa or a nearby town, Playa de Canelas is perfectly accessible on foot or by bicycle, especially if we enjoy a walk by the sea. The Vilagarcía promenade connects us with different points along the coast, and walking to Canelas can be a very pleasant experience, allowing us to enjoy the landscape and the local atmosphere before reaching our beach destination.
