Strategically located within the stunning Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso y Roldán Natural Park, this beach is not just a destination, but a complete experience. From the moment we begin descending its winding access road, we feel the hustle and bustle of the world fading away, replaced by the murmur of the Mediterranean and the scent of native vegetation. How to Get to Playa de El Portús

Getting to Playa de El Portús is part of the adventure and charm of this destination. From Cartagena, the most common route takes us along the RM-E22 road towards Mazarrón, then taking the turnoff towards El Portús. The journey winds through a mountainous and picturesque landscape, offering spectacular views of the coastline. The road leading directly to the beach is somewhat winding and narrow in some sections, preparing us for the feeling of arriving at a special and somewhat secluded place. It's important to drive carefully, enjoying the journey.

As we approach the beach, we will find areas where we can park our vehicle. Parking in El Portús is mostly informal, consisting of spaces set up along the access road and on dirt clearings. Especially during the busier months, like July and August, it can be a bit more challenging to find a good spot, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good location. From these parking points, access to the sand is via small paths or stairs, which, while not particularly difficult, remind us of the natural and less developed character of the beach. For those who prefer public transport, options are limited, with a private car being the most comfortable and recommended way to access this paradise.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de El Portús is its particular composition. Far from the typical fine, golden sand beaches, here we find a fascinating mix of coarse sand and pebbles, giving it a unique texture and feel underfoot. This type of ground is not only pleasant but also contributes to the exceptional clarity of its waters. The absence of fine suspended sand allows the sea to remain incredibly transparent, revealing a seabed that is a true marvel to behold. It's a pleasure to walk along the shore, feeling the caress of the small stones polished by the waves.

The waters of El Portús are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their transparency is such that, on a sunny day, we can easily observe fish swimming at our feet and the rocky formations on the seabed. This characteristic makes it a paradise for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. The calm of its waters, protected by the coastal orography, makes swimming an extremely pleasant and safe experience, ideal for relaxing and letting oneself be carried away by the serenity of the surroundings. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is very pleasant, inviting us to spend long hours immersed in this oasis of freshness and natural beauty. It's no wonder many consider it one of the beaches with the cleanest waters in the Murcia region.

Services and Facilities

Despite its natural and somewhat secluded character, Playa de El Portús has some essential services that make our visit more comfortable, always maintaining that balance between comfort and respect for the environment. During the high season, generally from June to September, we can find a chiringuito or two where we can refresh ourselves with a cold drink, enjoy an ice cream, or even savor a light meal with sea views. These establishments are usually simple but offer what's necessary to complement our beach day. It's important to remember that outside the high season, these services are likely to be closed, so if we visit the beach at other times, it's advisable to bring our own provisions.

Regarding safety, the beach usually has lifeguards during the summer months, which gives us additional peace of mind when enjoying a swim, especially if we're with children. Although the parking is informal, as mentioned before, there is usually enough space along the access road, though it can fill up quickly on peak days. Furthermore, near the chiringuito or the naturist campsite located at the end of the beach, we often have access to bathrooms/WCs, a much-appreciated service for longer stays. However, we shouldn't expect to find a wide range of facilities like umbrella and sunbed rentals, showers on the sand, or organized sports areas, as El Portús is dist
