How to Get to Playa de San Andrés

Getting to Playa de San Andrés is, fortunately, a simple task, given its central location in the Málaga capital. This accessibility is, in fact, one of its greatest attractions for us, visitors who value comfort.

By Private Car

If we choose the car, the beach is located in a well-connected area of Málaga. We can access it via Avenida de la Paloma or Avenida Manuel Agustín Heredia, which run parallel to the coast. The main difficulty might be finding parking, especially during high season or on weekends. However, there are several options:

• Parking de la Explanada de la Estación: Although a bit further away, it offers great capacity and from there we can take a pleasant 15-20 minute walk to the beach.
• Underground car parks: There are several paid car parks in the vicinity of the center and the port which, although not right on the beach, leave us within walking distance.
• Regulated parking zones (ORA): In the nearby streets, it is possible to find parking in blue or green zones, but it is always important to check the rates and schedules.

By Public Transport

Public transport is, for us, the most comfortable and sustainable option to get to Playa de San Andrés. Málaga has an excellent network of urban buses (EMT) that will leave us very close to the sand.

• Bus lines: Several bus lines have stops just meters from the beach. Some of the most useful include Line 3 (Puerta Blanca – El Palo), Line 5 (Alameda Principal – Guadalmar), Line 9 (Alameda Principal – Churriana) and Line 10 (Alameda Principal – Churriana). It is always advisable to check the EMT app or website for the most updated routes and schedules.
• Málaga Metro: Although it doesn't go directly to the beach, the 'El Perchel' metro stop, next to the María Zambrano train station, leaves us about a 15-20 minute walk away. It's a good alternative if we are coming from areas further from the city center.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For those already in the center of Málaga or in nearby neighborhoods like Huelin or Soho, getting to Playa de San Andrés on foot is a fantastic option. A walk along the Paseo Marítimo Antonio Machado is, in itself, a pleasant experience, offering sea views and the sea breeze. Furthermore, the city has bike lanes that facilitate access by bicycle, allowing us to enjoy the journey in an active and ecological way. We always recommend this option if the distance allows it, as it lets us soak up the local atmosphere.

The sand of Playa de San Andrés is characteristic of many Málaga beaches: dark in tone and with a texture described as fine, although some might consider it more medium-grained. For us, this particularity gives it a different appeal than the white sand beaches we find in other latitudes. It's a comfortable sand underfoot, ideal for spreading out a towel and enjoying long hours of sun without the nuisance of the wind easily carrying it away. Children, for their part, find in it the perfect material for building castles and letting their imagination run wild.
