Introduction
Welcome, sun and sea lovers, to our beloved Playa de Las Gaviotas! If there's a spot on the Costa del Sol that perfectly embodies the essence of Andalusian summer, it's undoubtedly this wonderful beach in Fuengirola, in the province of Malaga. When we think of a destination that has it all, from tranquility for families to the vibrant energy of the beach bars, Playa de Las Gaviotas immediately comes to mind. It's a place where time seems to stand still, or at least slow down enough for us to enjoy every ray of sunshine, every wave, and every laugh. We dare say it's a true treasure on the Malaga coast.
For us, Playa de Las Gaviotas is not just a stretch of sand; it's a lifestyle. It's the promise of sunny mornings, relaxing afternoons under the umbrella, and mild evenings with the sound of waves in the background. Here, natural beauty blends perfectly with first-class tourist infrastructure, offering a complete, worry-free holiday experience. From the moment we set foot on its sand, we know we're in the right place, a spot where worries fade away and joy takes over.
How to Get to Playa de Las Gaviotas
Getting to Playa de Las Gaviotas is surprisingly simple, making it an accessible destination for everyone. We always recommend planning the trip a little, although Fuengirola's good connection with the rest of the Costa del Sol makes things much easier.
By Car
If we come by car, the Mediterranean Highway (A-7 or AP-7) is our best ally. Fuengirola is very well signposted, and once in the municipality, following the signs to the beach is easy. Playa de Las Gaviotas is located in the eastern area of the promenade, near the Castillo de Sohail. Finding parking can be a challenge during high season, but there are options. We can look for paid underground parking or, with luck, a spot on the streets near the promenade. We usually arrive early to secure a good spot.
By Public Transport
- Commuter Train (C-1): This is one of our favorite options. The C-1 commuter line connects Malaga city (María Zambrano Station and Airport) with Fuengirola. Fuengirola station is right in the center, and from there, a pleasant 15-20 minute walk along the promenade will take us directly to Playa de Las Gaviotas. It's a comfortable and eco-friendly way to avoid traffic and parking.
- Bus: Fuengirola has a good network of urban buses connecting different points of the municipality with the promenade. If we're coming from other nearby towns, there are also intercity lines that arrive at the Fuengirola bus station, and from there, we can connect with urban lines or take a walk. We always check the schedules in advance, especially on weekends.
The Sand and Water
When we talk about Playa de Las Gaviotas, it's impossible not to start with its fine, golden sand. It's the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot, lie down without worries, and build dream castles with the little ones. Its soft texture is a delight for the feet, and its width gives us a feeling of freedom and space, even on the busiest days. It is, without a doubt, one of the features that most attracts us to this Fuengirola beach.
The waters of Playa de Las Gaviotas are another of its great attractions. They are usually calm and crystal clear, with a blue-green hue that invites constant swimming. The shallow depth at the shore makes it an exceptionally safe place for children, which gives us great peace of mind when we go with the family. Furthermore, the temperature of the Mediterranean in this area is very pleasant for much of the year, allowing us to enjoy a good dip from spring until well into autumn. The cleanliness of the water is constant, reflecting its Blue Flag status, a distinction that assures us of quality and respect for the environment.
