How to Get to Playa de El Peñoncillo

Getting to Playa de El Peñoncillo is a simple task, making it an accessible destination for all types of travelers. We always value ease of access, and in this case, Torrox makes it easy for us.

By Car

The most comfortable and flexible way to get there is undoubtedly by car. Playa de El Peñoncillo is located very close to the A-7 highway (Autovía del Mediterráneo), which connects the entire Andalusian coast. If we're coming from Malaga city, we must take exit 285 towards Torrox/Frigiliana/Cómpeta. Once we exit the highway, the signs towards Torrox Costa and the beaches will guide us directly. The beach stretches along the N-340, which is the old coastal road, so finding it is not complicated at all. There are several parking areas along the road that borders the beach, some free on the shoulders and others in small designated lots, especially near the beach bars. During high season, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot, but with a little patience, we always find a place to leave our vehicle.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, there are also options. From the Malaga Bus Station, we can take a regular bus line to Torrox Costa. The company ALSA operates these routes quite frequently. Once in Torrox Costa, Playa de El Peñoncillo is accessible on foot from several stops, or we can take a local taxi if we prefer not to walk, although the truth is that a stroll along the promenade is a delight. There are also bus connections from nearby towns like Nerja or Vélez-Málaga, which facilitates day trips.

Other Means

If we are cycling enthusiasts, the N-340 road is very popular among cyclists, and arriving by bicycle is a healthy and ecological option, although caution must be taken with traffic. In general, the area's infrastructure is designed to facilitate access to its Malaga beaches, and El Peñoncillo is no exception.

The presence of gravel helps keep the water cleaner and clearer, as the sand is not stirred up as easily. It's important to bring, perhaps, some water shoes if we are very sensitive to the texture of the gravel, although most of the beach is sandy.

The Water

The waters of Playa de El Peñoncillo are, without exaggeration, one of its greatest attractions. They are famous for their clarity and cleanliness, a quality that has been recognized on numerous occasions with the awarding of the Blue Flag, a mark of environmental quality. The water temperature is usually very pleasant during the summer months, inviting long swims and refreshing dips. Furthermore, being a beach with a shallow shore and generally gentle waves, it is extremely safe for swimming, even for the youngest members of the family. We greatly enjoy the sensation of swimming in these waters, which offer excellent visibility for observing marine life near the shore, although it is not a snorkeling paradise.
