How to Get to Playa de Os Castros

Getting to Playa de Os Castros is relatively straightforward, and the access options make it a destination accessible to most travelers. The beach is located in the municipality of Ribadeo, on the Lugo coast, very close to the border with Asturias.

Road Access

If we come by car, the most common way to get there is via the Cantabrian Motorway (A-8). We must take the exit towards Ribadeo and follow the signs to the coast. From Ribadeo town center, the journey is short, just a few minutes by car. The N-634 road also connects us to the area if we are coming from nearby towns.

Parking

In the vicinity of Playa de Os Castros, we will find parking areas, although their availability can vary greatly depending on the time of year and the time of day. During the summer months, it is advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. Generally, these are unregulated parking areas, which facilitates the visit. From the parking lot, a short walk takes us directly to the sand, allowing us to quickly immerse ourselves in the beauty of the place.

Public Transport

Although public transport in the area is more limited, there are bus lines connecting Ribadeo with other Galician and Asturian towns. Once in Ribadeo, we could opt for a taxi or, if we are adventurous, a pleasant walk to the beach, enjoying the coastal landscape. However, for greater comfort and flexibility, a private car is the option we usually recommend for exploring this part of the Lugo coast.

The Sand and the Water

Although the general ground type of the beach is mixed, combining sand with the rock that defines its character, the main bathing areas are predominantly sandy. This mix creates a fascinating visual contrast and offers different textures under our feet as we explore.

The Atlantic waters on this part of the Lugo coast are, as is usual in Galicia, cool and crystal clear. Their transparency allows us to see the sandy bottom in the shallower areas, which is always an indicator of the good health of its ecosystem. The color of the water varies between shades of blue and emerald green, reflecting the sky and the rocky surroundings. The water quality is excellent, inviting us to a refreshing swim on sunny days.

At high tide, the landscape transforms; the rocks become submerged or partially covered, and the beach becomes a more secluded cove, ideal for a quiet swim.
