How to Get to Playa del Pozo Izquierdo

Getting to Playa del Pozo Izquierdo is relatively straightforward, and its location makes it accessible from the main points of Gran Canaria. We, as good explorers, will give you the best directions so you don't miss this unique enclave.

By Car

The most comfortable and flexible option to get to Pozo Izquierdo is, without a doubt, by car. From Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, we'll take the GC-1 highway heading south. The journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes, covering a distance of about 30 kilometers. We'll need to take exit 28 towards GC-191, which will take us directly to Vecindario and, from there, following the signs, to the coast of Pozo Izquierdo. There are a good number of parking spaces available, especially near the windsurfing centers, although on event or competition days you might have to search a bit more.

From the south of the island, like Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés, the journey is even shorter, about 15-20 minutes. We'll simply take the GC-1 heading north and follow the same exit signs towards GC-191. The road is well signposted and access is direct.

By Public Transport

If you prefer public transport, Global's guaguas (buses) offer connections from various points on the island. From the San Telmo Station in Las Palmas, we can take Global line 1 to Vecindario (Cruce de Sardina or Atlántico stop). Once in Vecindario, which is the nearest urban center, you'll need to take a taxi or, if you're feeling energetic, take a 20-30 minute walk to the beach. There are also some local lines connecting Vecindario with Pozo Izquierdo, but their frequencies are lower, so we recommend checking the updated schedules on the Global website or at the stops.

The Sand and Water

Playa del Pozo Izquierdo is not the typical golden sand beach one might imagine in the Canary Islands. Its physiognomy is much more particular and reflects the island's volcanic origin. Here, the sand is a dark tone, between gray and black, and coarse-grained, often mixed with pebbles and small rocks. It's a beach that doesn't seek softness, but resistance and connection with the force of the earth.

The seabed, as you enter the water, can be a mix of coarse sand and rocky areas, so, if you're not equipped with booties, we recommend being cautious, especially if you're not used to this type of coastline. The water's transparency, however, is notable, allowing us to see the bottom in many spots.

As for the water, the Atlantic here shows itself in all its splendor. Temperatures are pleasant year-round, ranging between 18-20 degrees Celsius in winter and 22-24 degrees in summer. What truly defines the waters of Pozo Izquierdo are, of course, the wind and waves. Currents can be strong and the swell considerable, making it an ideal place for windsurfing and kitesurfing, but less so for a calm swim, especially for young children or inexperienced swimmers. It's a beach to feel the power of the sea, not to relax floating.

Don't expect to find a row of 'chiringuitos' with loud music or rentals of sunbeds and umbrellas here; its charm lies in its authenticity and its sporting vocation.

Here you can rent state-of-the-art equipment, take lessons for all levels (from beginners to advanced), and find expert advice. It's the perfect place to start or improve your skills.
