Introduction
From the moment we set foot on Playa de Llafranc, in the picturesque municipality of Palafrugell, we feel a special connection with this privileged corner of the Costa Brava. It's not just a beach; it's a microcosm of Mediterranean life, where the fishing tradition harmoniously merges with quality tourism. We find ourselves before a bay of serene, crystal-clear waters, protected by a small harbor and a lively promenade that invites you to stroll leisurely and surrender to the slow pace of the place. It is, without a doubt, one of those Girona beaches that leaves a lasting impression.
The essence of Llafranc lies in its ability to offer a complete experience. Here, the intense blue of the Mediterranean contrasts with the pristine white of the houses climbing the hillside, creating a postcard-perfect scene straight out of a movie. It's a destination that attracts both families seeking safety and fun for the little ones, and couples looking to enjoy romantic sunsets and exquisite gastronomy. Playa de Llafranc is not just a place to sunbathe, but a starting point to explore the cultural and natural richness of the region, an enclave where every detail is designed for the visitor's enjoyment.

How to Get to Playa de Llafranc
Getting to Playa de Llafranc is relatively straightforward, with options varying depending on your starting point. We recommend planning your trip in advance to ensure the best experience.
By Car
The most comfortable and flexible way to reach the Palafrugell beach is by car. From Barcelona, the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes (about 130 km), taking the AP-7 highway towards Girona and then turning off onto the C-31 towards Palafrugell. Once in Palafrugell, the signs to Llafranc are clear. From Girona, the trip is even shorter, around 45 minutes (about 50 km) via the C-65 and then the C-31.
Parking: Playa de Llafranc has several parking areas, both paid and some free options on adjacent streets, although the latter are usually in high demand during peak season. There is an underground parking lot in the center of the village which is an excellent option. We always advise arriving early, especially in the summer months, to avoid parking problems.
By Public Transport
Although a car offers more freedom, it is also possible to reach Llafranc by public transport.
- Bus: From Barcelona or Girona, you can take a bus from the Sarfa company (part of the Moventis group) to Palafrugell. Once in Palafrugell, there are local buses connecting to Llafranc. Schedules are more frequent in summer. This option is ideal if you prefer to relax and not worry about parking.
- Train: There is no train station in Llafranc. The nearest station is Flaçà, about 25 km away, or Girona. From there, you would need to combine with a bus or taxi. We consider the direct bus from major cities to be the most practical option if you are not traveling by car.
Other Means
- Airports: Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is about 50 km from Llafranc, and Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) is about 130 km away. Both offer domestic and international flights, and from there you can rent a car or take a bus/train to Palafrugell.
The Sand and Water
When we talk about Playa de Llafranc, the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters are two of the attributes that captivate us the most. The sand is fine and of a soft golden hue, very pleasant to the touch and perfect for lying down to enjoy the sun. You won't find large stones or pebbles on the shore, making it an ideal place to walk barefoot or for children to play with complete freedom and safety. The sand is constantly cleaned, a reflection of the care taken to maintain this coastal paradise.
As for the water, it is simply spectacular. The waters of Llafranc bay are crystal clear, with shades ranging from light turquoise at the shore to a deep blue further out to sea. The bay, being protected, offers very gentle waves and minimal currents, making it exceptionally safe for swimming, even for the little ones or for those who don't feel very comfortable in the sea. The water temperature is pleasant during the summer months, inviting long swims and the practice of various water activities.
We always highlight the water quality of Playa de Llafranc, which year after year receives the Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies not only the excellent quality of its waters but also the environmental management and safety of its facilities. Immersing yourself in these waters is a revitalizing experience, an invitation to disconnect and be enveloped by the calm of the Mediterranean. Furthermore, the clarity of the water allows you to observe the seabed, which is an incentive for those who enjoy snorkeling, even close to the shore.
