How to Get to Playa de l'Escala

Getting to Playa de l'Escala is a simple task, given the good connections of the municipality with the main roads of the region. We always plan the route in advance to ensure a hassle-free trip, especially if visiting during the busier months.

By Car

If you choose to drive, the AP-7 motorway is your best option. From Barcelona or the French border, take exit 5 (L'Escala-Empúries) and follow the signs that will lead you directly to the municipality. Once in L'Escala, the central beach is located in the heart of the town, easily accessible. It's important to remember that, being an urban beach, parking can be a challenge in high season. There are several paid parking areas near the promenade, and we often find options on adjacent streets, though it might require a short walk. Patience is a virtue in summer.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, L'Escala does not have its own train station. The most common option is to take a train to Figueres (with AVE or regional train connections) or Flaçà, and from there take a regular bus line. Several bus companies connect L'Escala with Figueres, Girona, Barcelona, and other towns on the Costa Brava. It's a comfortable alternative, allowing you to forget about parking and enjoy the scenery during the journey. We sometimes choose this option to enjoy reading or simply the views.

The Sand and Water
