How to Get to Cala Maset

Getting to Cala Maset is relatively straightforward, although, like many coves on the Costa Brava, it requires a bit of planning, especially during high season. Our experience tells us that the best option is usually by car, as it provides the necessary flexibility to explore the area at our own pace. From the center of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the journey is short, just a few minutes heading north, following the GI-682 road that connects Sant Feliu with S'Agaró and Platja d'Aro. The cove is well signposted, which is always a relief when you don't know the area.

Regarding parking, it's an aspect that always concerns us when visiting popular beaches. For Cala Maset, you will find parking options nearby. Generally, there are regulated (paid) parking areas quite close to the cove, which facilitates access. However, in the summer months, especially July and August, these parking lots tend to fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early in the morning to secure a good spot. If you choose to walk, from the Sant Feliu de Guíxols promenade, you can reach Cala Maset via the famous Camino de Ronda, a coastal path that offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean. It's a pleasant walk, about 15-20 minutes, perfect for stretching your legs and enjoying the scenery before a well-deserved swim.

For those who prefer public transport, Sant Feliu de Guíxols has bus lines connecting it to the main cities in the province of Girona, including the capital. Once in the center of Sant Feliu, you could take a taxi or, as mentioned, enjoy a pleasant walk along the Camino de Ronda to the cove. It's important to consider that bus frequencies may vary depending on the season, so it's always a good idea to check schedules in advance. In any case, getting to Cala Maset is part of the adventure and, believe us, the effort is worth it.

The Sand and Water

One of the aspects that most captivates us about Cala Maset is, without a doubt, the quality and characteristics of its sand and waters. Upon stepping onto the cove, we find a surface that is a perfect mix of coarse sand and small gravel or pebbles. It's not the fine, white sand of some Caribbean beaches, but it has its own charm, very characteristic of the Costa Brava. This composition keeps the water incredibly clear, as the sand doesn't get stirred up as easily as on beaches with finer sand. Furthermore, we find it very comfortable for spreading out a towel and enjoying the sun, without it sticking to us excessively.

But where Cala Maset truly shines is in its waters. They are simply spectacular! Of an intense turquoise color that invites us to dive in immediately, its waters are transparent to the point of being able to see the seabed with total clarity several meters deep. This makes it a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts, as the visibility is exceptional and the marine life, although not as abundant as in protected reserves, is interesting enough to spend a good while exploring. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is very pleasant, warm and refreshing at the same time, ideal for beating the heat.

The entry into the sea at Cala Maset is gentle and gradual, making it very safe, especially for the little ones in the family. There are no sudden drops or strong currents to worry about. We have found that, even on somewhat windy days, the cove is usually quite protected thanks to the cliffs flanking it, which ensures optimal swimming conditions most of the time. The mix of sand and rock on the seabed creates an interesting ecosystem to explore, and the rocks on the sides of the cove are perfect for sitting and observing the landscape or for children to play at discovering small sea creatures.
