How to Get to Cala de les Freses

Getting to Cala de les Freses is part of the adventure and charm of this place. It is not one of those beaches you can drive directly to, which contributes to its atmosphere of intimacy and tranquility. While access is not complicated, it does require a short walk that, in our opinion, is totally worth it for the final reward.

By Car and on Foot

We recommend arriving in Portbou by car. Once in the town, you can park in one of the available parking areas, especially near the port or in the streets adjacent to the center. It's important to consider that, in high season, finding parking may require a bit more patience, but there are always options. From the center of Portbou, or from the port area, we will embark on a pleasant walk. The cove is located south of the urban center, following a path that borders the coast. This path, although not excessively long (perhaps 15-20 minutes on foot, depending on your pace), does have some sections with a certain slope and uneven terrain, so we advise wearing comfortable footwear suitable for walking on trails. The views along the way are spectacular, offering panoramas of the Mediterranean and the rugged coastline that prepare us for the beauty of the cove.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, Portbou is a municipality well connected by train. Portbou train station is a key point, as it is one of the last stops before the French border. From the station, the path to the cove is the same as if you had arrived by car: on foot, crossing the town and following the coastal trail. It is an excellent option for those who wish to avoid the stress of parking and enjoy a more relaxed journey, contemplating the landscape from the train window. The experience of getting to Cala de les Freses beach is, in itself, a small excursion.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive aspects of Cala de les Freses is, without a doubt, the composition of its seabed and the quality of its waters. But if there's something we love about Cala de les Freses beach, it's its waters. They are simply spectacular. Their transparency is such that we can see the seabed with astonishing clarity several meters deep. This clarity, along with the richness of its underwater ecosystem, makes it a paradise for lovers of snorkeling and diving. We always bring our masks and snorkels when we visit this cove, and it never disappoints. Beneath the surface, a landscape of algae-covered rocks awaits, small schools of colorful fish, starfish, and, with a bit of luck, even a moray eel or octopus hidden among the crevices.
