When we think of Canary Islands beaches that have it all, this jewel in the south of the island always comes to mind. It's a place where the vastness of the Atlantic meets a strip of golden sand that seems endless, offering the perfect setting for both relaxation and adventure.

What makes Playa del Matorral special is its unique combination of natural beauty and excellent infrastructure. Here, the imposing Morro Jable Lighthouse stands as a silent guardian, visually dividing the beach and adding a picturesque touch to an already spectacular landscape. Around it, the Saladar de Jandía, a protected natural area, reminds us of the ecological richness of the zone, even in the heart of the tourist area. It's a beach that invites us to disconnect, to stroll without haste, and to immerse ourselves in the essence of the majorera island.

How to get to Playa del Matorral

Getting to Playa del Matorral is really simple, as it is perfectly integrated into the tourist hub of Morro Jable. We always say that good planning is key to enjoying it to the fullest from the very first moment.

By car

If we arrive at Fuerteventura Airport (FUE), the drive to Morro Jable and the beach is approximately 75-80 kilometres, which translates to about an hour and ten minutes of driving on the FV-2, a road in excellent condition. Once in Morro Jable, the beach runs parallel to the promenade and there are several areas of free parking on the surrounding streets, although in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot. We recommend looking for parking near the lighthouse or in the vicinity of the nearby hotels and apartments.

By bus

Public transport in Fuerteventura is quite efficient and an excellent option if we don't want to rent a car. Global line 10 (Puerto del Rosario - Morro Jable) will drop us off directly in Morro Jable. There are also other lines connecting to different points on the island, such as line 1 (Puerto del Rosario - Morro Jable, with more intermediate stops) or line 5 (Costa Calma - Morro Jable). The bus stops in Morro Jable are very close to the start of the beach and the promenade, making access very comfortable.

Walking or by bicycle

If we are already staying in Morro Jable or the adjacent areas of Jandía, the best way to get there is undoubtedly by taking a quiet stroll along the promenade. The beach is so extensive that we can access it from multiple points, and the walk is flat and very pleasant, ideal for enjoying the coastal atmosphere or a bicycle ride.

The sand and the water

When we talk about Playa del Matorral, it's impossible not to start by describing the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. For us, it's one of its biggest attractions and the reason why so many visitors return year after year.

A carpet of golden sand

The sand of Playa del Matorral is fine and of a beautiful golden colour that, under the Canarian sun, shines with a special intensity. It's so soft to the touch that it invites us to take off our flip-flops and feel it under our feet as we take long walks along the shore. This characteristic makes it perfect for children, who can play and build sandcastles without worrying about stones or pebbles. Furthermore, its great expanse guarantees that, even on the busiest days, we will always find our own corner of tranquility to spread out our towel and relax.

Crystal clear and calm waters

The Atlantic waters in this area of Fuerteventura are famous for their clarity and their turquoise and emerald tones. At Playa del Matorral, calm is usually the dominant theme, especially in the part closest to the lighthouse and Morro Jable. The slope for entering the sea is gentle, making it a very safe beach suitable for everyone, from the little ones splashing at the water's edge to those who enjoy a good swim without worrying about strong currents.

We love the feeling of immersing ourselves in these waters, which usually have a pleasant temperature all year round, allowing us to enjoy a refreshing swim in any season. The clarity is such that, with a simple snorkel mask, we can observe the marine life hiding near the rocky areas, although most of the beach has a sandy bottom. It is, without a doubt, a paradise for lovers of the sea and sun, where the quality of the natural environment is kept impeccable thanks, in part, to its Blue Flag distinction.
