How to Get to Playa de Esquinzo

Getting to Playa de Esquinzo is relatively straightforward, although it will require a small detour from the main routes, which contributes to its more tranquil atmosphere. This beach is located on the south coast of Fuerteventura, between the well-known tourist towns of Morro Jable and Costa Calma, forming part of the extensive and spectacular Jandía peninsula. If we are coming from the north or the airport, we will take the FV-2 highway heading south.

Access by Car

The most comfortable way for us to get there is by car. From Morro Jable, we will head north on the FV-2 and take the exit towards Esquinzo-Butihondo. From Costa Calma, we will head south and look for the same signage. Once in the Esquinzo urbanisation, we will find several streets that lead to the coast. There are nearby parking areas, often informal but sufficient, where we can leave our vehicle. It's important to remember that, being an area with adjacent urbanisations, access is usually well signposted, but the beach itself maintains a more natural character.

Public Transport

If we prefer not to drive, we can opt for public transport. The 'guaguas' (buses) of Fuerteventura connect the main towns. There are lines that run between Morro Jable and Costa Calma, with stops near the Esquinzo urbanisation. From the bus stop, we will have to walk a few minutes to the sand, but it's a viable option for those who wish to get around without their own vehicle. However, we always advise checking the schedules in advance, as the frequency can vary.

The Sand and the Water

For us, one of the greatest attractions of Playa de Esquinzo is, without a doubt, its sand and its waters. We are talking about fine sand of a golden colour that shines under the Canarian sun, perfect for walking barefoot and feeling its softness between our toes. It's a delight for the feet, ideal for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for spreading out our towel and enjoying the warmth.

The waters here are of astonishing transparency, with shades ranging from light turquoise at the shore to deep blue further out to sea. The water temperature is generally pleasant year-round, inviting us for a refreshing dip. Although they are generally calm, especially in the more sheltered areas, it's important for us to know that, as on many Atlantic beaches, currents or moderate waves can sometimes occur. Therefore, we always recommend paying attention to the lifeguards' instructions and enjoying swimming with caution. The underwater visibility is excellent, making it a good spot for a bit of snorkelling, if we feel like exploring the marine life closer to the shore.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Esquinzo is characterised by maintaining a balance between its natural beauty and the comfort of certain services, although it is not a beach with massive tourist infrastructure. We highly value this authenticity.

Among the services we can find, we highlight:

• Parking: As mentioned, there are parking areas, often not formalised with meters, but sufficient to leave the car near the beach access points.
• Lifeguards: During the high season and in the more crowded areas, there is usually a lifeguard service, which gives us additional peace of mind, especially if we are with children. It's always good to look for the surveillance points.
• Chiringuitos: Although they are not abundant directly on the sand of Esquinzo, in the vicinity of the urbanisation and on neighbouring beaches like Butihondo, we can find a chiringuito or small bar where we can refresh ourselves and have a snack or a light meal. Esquinzo is not a beach with large clusters of services, and that is part of its charm for us, but we won't be completely isolated.
