From the moment we set foot on Playa de las Fuentes in Alcossebre, within the municipality of Alcalà de Xivert, in the beautiful province of Castellón, we know we are in a truly special place. Its name is no coincidence, as the beach owes its uniqueness to the numerous freshwater springs that bubble up directly from the sand and emerge at the shoreline, even within the sea itself. For us, visiting Playa de las Fuentes is immersing ourselves in a sensory experience. How to Get to Playa de las Fuentes

Getting to Playa de las Fuentes is relatively easy, as Alcossebre is a well-connected town and a popular tourist destination on the coast of Castellón. We always value ease of access, and in this case, the beach does not disappoint.

By Car

The car is, for many, the most comfortable and flexible option to get there. From anywhere in the Valencian Community or other regions of Spain, we can access via the AP-7 motorway, taking exit 44 (Torreblanca/Alcossebre). If we prefer a more scenic and free route, the N-340 runs parallel to the coast and will take us to the vicinity of Alcalà de Xivert and, from there, to Alcossebre. Once in the town, the beach is well signposted and has nearby parking areas, although in high season, as usual, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot, so we recommend arriving early. The beach is very close to the Alcossebre marina, which makes it easy to locate.

By Public Transport

If we opt for public transport, we can consider the train and bus.

• Train: The nearest train station with long-distance stops is Oropesa del Mar or Benicarló-Peñíscola. From there, we would need to take a taxi or a regular bus line to Alcossebre. Commuter trains also connect Castellón de la Plana with these stations, facilitating arrival from the provincial capital.
• Bus: There are bus lines connecting Alcossebre with other coastal towns and the capital, Castellón de la Plana. It is advisable to check updated schedules and routes, especially outside the summer season, as frequency may vary.

By Plane

For those coming from further away, the nearest airports are Castellón Airport (CDT), about 25-30 kilometers away, and Valencia Airport (VLC), approximately 100 kilometers away. From both, we can rent a car or use public transport or taxi services to reach our destination in Alcossebre. The proximity of Castellón airport is a major plus for international and domestic tourism.

The most surprising feature, as we have already mentioned, are the freshwater springs that bubble up right at the shoreline and under the sea. This creates a fascinating effect: we can feel how the cold water from the springs mixes with the warmer water of the Mediterranean, generating currents of different temperatures that are a delight on hot days. It is a unique, refreshing, and revitalizing sensation. Furthermore, the presence of these freshwater springs contributes to a surprising diversity of flora and fauna in the area closest to the shore, making it a small paradise for snorkeling and nature observation enthusiasts. The shallow waters near the shore also make it very safe for children's bathing.
