How to Get to Playa de Los Locos

Getting to Playa de Los Locos is part of the adventure, and its access, while not complicated, requires some planning, especially in high season. We are in the municipality of Suances, on the central coast of Cantabria, a well-connected town that facilitates access to this paradise. If we come by car, which is the most comfortable and recommended option for exploring the area, we can take the A-8 motorway (Autovía del Cantábrico) and turn off at exit 226 towards Suances. Once in the town, we follow the signs to the beaches, and in particular, to the La Atalaya or Los Locos area.

There is a parking lot, although with limited capacity, at the top of the cliff, just before starting the descent to the beach. In the summer months, this parking lot fills up quickly, so we always advise arriving early or considering parking a bit further away in the town and taking a pleasant walk. From the parking lot, access to the sand is via a set of stairs descending the cliff, offering spectacular views along the way. It's important to consider that, due to these stairs, the beach is not easily accessible for people with reduced mobility or baby strollers.

For those who prefer public transport, Suances has bus lines connecting it with Torrelavega and Santander. Once in Suances, you could opt for a local taxi or, if your accommodation is nearby, a walk to the beach. However, to fully enjoy the flexibility and freedom to explore the surroundings, the car remains our main recommendation. The road leading to the viewpoint is narrow in some sections, but it is well signposted, ensuring your arrival at Playa de Los Locos is as smooth as possible.

The Sand and the Water
