How to Get to Playa de la Caleta

Getting to Playa de la Caleta is relatively straightforward, although its location in Cádiz's old town requires some considerations, especially if we are traveling by car. We always recommend exploring public transport options or, if possible, enjoying a pleasant walk to soak up the charm of the city.

By Private Car

If we choose to drive, we must know that direct access to the beach is restricted and on-street parking in the old town is limited and regulated by paid zones (blue zone). Our best option is to look for one of the underground car parks in the vicinity. The closest to La Caleta is the Parking de la Caleta, located beneath the beach itself, although it tends to fill up quickly in high season. Other alternatives are the Campo del Sur Car Park or the Santa Bárbara Car Park, both within a walkable distance of 10 to 20 minutes from the beach. It's important to remember that navigating the narrow streets of the historic center can be tricky for those unfamiliar with the area, so we recommend using GPS and having patience.

By Public Transport

Cádiz has an excellent public transport network that facilitates access to La Caleta:

• Urban Bus: Several lines of Cádiz's urban bus have stops near the beach. Lines 2 and 7, for example, drop us off a short distance away, at Alameda Apodaca or Campo del Sur. From there, a short and pleasant walk will take us directly to the sand. It's a comfortable and economical option for getting around the city.
• Train: If we arrive in Cádiz by train, the station is located at Plaza de Sevilla, about a 25-30 minute walk from La Caleta. The walk is highly recommended, as it allows us to traverse the heart of the old town and discover its charms. From the station, we can also take an urban bus or a taxi.
• On Foot: For us, the best way to get to Playa de la Caleta if we are already in central Cádiz is, without a doubt, by walking. The city is relatively compact, and strolling through its narrow streets, lively squares, and charming corners is a fundamental part of the Cádiz experience. From any point in the old town, it's likely we won't take more than 20-25 minutes to arrive, enjoying the journey and discovering the true essence of the city.

Playa de la Caleta delights us with fine, golden sand, very pleasant to the touch and perfect for laying out our towel and enjoying the sun. The color of the sand, combined with the turquoise blue of its waters, creates a visual contrast that is a delight for the eyes. It's clean and well-maintained sand, which contributes to the feeling of well-being and comfort we experience when stepping on it.

As for the water, La Caleta is famous for its calm and shallow depth, especially near the shore. This makes it an ideal spot for swimming, even for young children or those who don't feel comfortable in open water. The waves are usually very gentle, almost non-existent on most days, protected as it is by the natural breakwaters formed by the castles. The water temperature is typically Mediterranean-Atlantic, refreshing in summer and cooler in spring and autumn, but always inviting for a dip. Water quality is constantly monitored and, as it holds a Blue Flag, we have the guarantee that it meets the highest standards of cleanliness and health. The seabed in the bathing area is predominantly sandy, making it easy to enter and exit the sea without discomfort.
