How to Get to Playa de Silistar

Getting to Playa de Silistar is part of the adventure, as its location within a protected area means it is not directly connected by major road infrastructure, which, in turn, helps preserve its natural charm. Generally, the most common route is through the small, picturesque village of Sinemorets, a charming coastal settlement south of Burgas, in the province of the same name in Bulgaria. From Sinemorets, the journey to the beach is a few kilometers, and although the main road is paved, the last stretch may be a dirt or gravel track, requiring careful driving, especially if we visit the area during rainy periods or with a low-clearance vehicle. We always recommend checking the condition of local roads before setting out, especially if traveling with children or people with reduced mobility.

By Car

For most visitors, the car is the most practical means of transport. From Burgas, the largest city in the region, the journey takes approximately one and a half to two hours, depending on traffic and any stops we make to admire the scenery. The route takes us south on the E87 road, passing through towns like Tsarevo and Ahtopol, before reaching Sinemorets. Once in Sinemorets, we will find signs guiding us towards Playa de Silistar. It is important to consider that parking at the beach is usually an informal space, often an area set up on the same dirt track or on the margins, so it can fill up quickly in high season. We advise arriving early to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

Direct public transport to Playa de Silistar is practically non-existent due to its remote and protected nature. However, it is possible to reach Sinemorets or nearby towns like Ahtopol by bus from Burgas. From there, we could consider taking a local taxi for the final leg to the beach, although this option can be more expensive and not always easy to find, especially outside the high season. We always prefer the flexibility offered by a car for exploring these more secluded spots.

The mix of this sand with the polished pebbles sometimes found at the ends of the cove adds a touch of natural diversity, but the general ground type is pure sand.

The waters of Playa de Silistar are, without exaggeration, crystal clear. Their transparency is such that, on sunny days, we can see the seabed with astonishing clarity, even at several meters depth. The color of the sea varies from a turquoise blue in the shallower areas to an intense blue in the depths, creating a hypnotic color palette. In addition to their clarity, the waters of Silistar are remarkably calm, protected from strong currents by their orientation and the configuration of the coast. This makes it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, even for the little ones, although always under adult supervision. The water temperature in summer is pleasantly warm, inviting long swims and full enjoyment of the Black Sea. We are always impressed by the serenity and beauty of these waters.
